Help for my beautiful inner CV boot!!!

Is it supposed to look like this? Do I need to open up the boot and reassemble it or should I just try to push it in? My knuckle would not go back into the right place!! I've been working on this for the past 2hrs and I am suffering heat stroke  ...lack of exercise... :crook:

why did u pull on the shaft so much that you seperated the bearings from the tulip joint?

anyways, just remove the shaft from the tranny and take off the boot, put it back in proper, but the boot back on and clamp it down good and reinstall

if you're bored and want a lil extra work u can clean the joint while its out, repack it with grease and get a new boot and clamps

next time dont force things and make extra work for yourself

brake cleaner will do a nice job cleaning the bearings... but yeah, that's so not right. time to rebuild the joint.

I got mine from NAPA I think for my winter car. I *heart* NAPA, just cuz they know me there and hook me up well. it almost pays to be a regular at a certain place.

Why can't I just take the axle down and change the boot and repack lube?

I will call NAPA and a friend who own a parts shop for price, if the price is not too much in difference I would not mind having a remanufactured axle with warrenty.

if you have a good OEM axle, just reassemble it correctly. and for future reference, you must NEVER pull on the axle, you can only pry it away from the tranny case, or hammer it out of the knuckle. I remember when I was doing it, took me 2 weeks to do a simple brake upgrade, just cuz the damn axle on the pass side wouldn't come out. I still have pics somewhere from when I was doing it I ended up just threading on the old nut and I mashed the crap outta it with a 2x4 for cushining and a baby sledge. I even tried making a special puller that would bolt to the wheel studs with a bolt in the center that would push the axle out.

man use a hammer and then a block of wood or a book or something...god can't you improvise I mean they suggest a rubber hammer but other things do infact work...buy a new joint and pop that one out of the tranny...you separated it so save yoruself the trouble and get a new one.

This axle ^%#$ is really diffcult to deal with, I had to take it to a mechanic to open up the boot and putting everything back together, then when I got back home and putting everything back together it fall off again, back I easily pushed it back and installed knuckle and stuff. Now my question is the inner CV boot still look weird, does it matter as long as I am able to put everything back? OR I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AGAIN???
