Help me pass emmisions for a...

friends car. Just got a swap, everything is ok but wont pass emmisions. They said it runs too rich, and its under "hotrod class"
What can we do to make it pass? Does that "garanteed to pass" emmisions stuff at canadian tire work? If anyone has connections with emmisions tests please pm me. Any ideas or tricks to this stuff?

you can do the oposite of what i did on my motor and take the intake temp sensor thing and put a resistor in there with like 4000-4500 ohms resistance... that will lean it out a lot cause the engine will think its sucking in hot air all the time

just make sure to hide that mod well cause i think they frown upon that sorta stuff to pass emissions....

Can you buy the resister at radio shack? Is the intake temp sensor on the manifold or throttle bottle?

punkindrublic 24-Sep-2003 02:56 PM

for 5th gens its on the back of the manifold... umm i went looking at 3 radio shacks for resistors and all dont sell them anymore... i went to this place in burlington... not to sure how close you are to burlington but it was called sayal electronics... but any electronic store will have then... except radio shack lol

Matheson and Dixie

theres about 3-4 stores in there that sell at that sorta junk :D

came back today with some goodies lol

quick and dirty way... use a fuel pressure regulator and turn the pressure down till it doesn't stink no more :) This may bump NOx emissions, but depending on how much room you have to play, it may be enough :)

punkindrublic 24-Sep-2003 03:13 PM

anyways that should lean out the mixture cause when i use a lower resistance like 1500 ohms it does richen the mixture which gives me more power and engine is always peppy like when you start it in the morning

imported_1sicsol 24-Sep-2003 03:26 PM

If the fuel pressure is 40psi, how much should it be turned down?

punkindrublic 24-Sep-2003 03:33 PM

cheap yes... about $0.20 for resistor but dirty?? i dont think so

bbarbulo 24-Sep-2003 03:35 PM

40 at what? prime? idle? part throttle?

should be 32 at idle... 44 at part throttle

imported_1sicsol 24-Sep-2003 03:51 PM

Thats my geuss (40psi at part throttle)untill we get a gauge on it, AND the fuel pump is stock(ek).

Could we crank it down really low, like 15psi and hope it works? Is that bad for the moter on the test...???

bbarbulo 24-Sep-2003 04:07 PM

don't crank it way down... just 5-8 psi total, and that should be enough to get you to pass. Not having any full throttle passes, it shouldn't be too bad for the motor, plus if the knock sensor is working, you should be okay.

punkindrublic 24-Sep-2003 06:42 PM

another cheap way would be to take your exhust and route it out the passenger side... then only have like 20% of the actually exhust flow flowing into the real exhust pipe out the back

pm me i can get it done for uif u kno wat i mean

Or, you can call me, and I would be able to refere you to a person that will do it legaly.

:)

Come out tonight, if you can.

try changing your oil, PCV valve, and put high octane gas with an octane booster and you should be good

dingus8 24-Sep-2003 09:20 PM

what motor does he have...? I mean a stock motor with stock ecu if it's "jdm" and in good working order it still shoudl pass with flyign colours...thinking of what is makign it run rich cause that is obviously killing hp....or get a vafc and lean out hte mix that way which is more precise and will be a great performance upgrade cause you can tune for every boot on
