help, info on wheel balancing

hey guys i wanna know is there a difference between high speed balancing or normal balacing or is it just a gimmick?
i bought some new wheels and tires and when i go about 80 kph the wheel shakes a bit. I thought it was because the tires are 40 series or something but when i go over bumps its smooth just like stock ride, i came to the conclusion i need to balance and i just wanna know which way to go and i dont want to spend foolish money if the "high speed" balancing is just a gimmick

oh also when i bought the rims and tires they came tires mounted and balanced but when i had them shipped i told them to let all the air out, is that why the balance is off or do you think they didnt do it in the first place???

Thanks 4 your input

the faster a tire rotates the more an imbalance will shake the car

Yay, first post for me! :)

I can't comment on the high-speed balancing, but be sure to check your ball joints to make sure they are good. Sometimes, even after balancing wheels, you'll still get vibrations on the highway because at times, there could be little pebbles that get lodged between the treads, and so those would definitely cause some small hopping.

AlphaMale congrats on your first post.

i think the ball joints are good cause up to the same hr i took off the original tires everything was silky smooth, its after i put the 22's on where i encountered this problem.

I've never heard of high speed balancing, but I guess it does make sense.

I've never had a problem with balancing ever before. I guess if your running 22's though, that's a diffirent story. I think it probably make a difference.

I remember when I use to install the tires, and usually the bigger the tire, the harder it was to balance. So I guess theoretically high speed balance should work. Just don't expect to not get any vibration at all.

To get virtually no vibration at all is nearly impossible.

but does anybody know as to why its not balanced?? could it be because i let all the tire pressure out to ship it, or is it because it was probably never done in the first place?

Weight falling off? If you are using the tape-on weights? Just guessing

imported_cbishun 05-Apr-2005 01:08 PM

i dont think they are taped on, they look pretty sturdy when i saw them, but who knows

Nova_Dust 05-Apr-2005 03:10 PM

So are they clippers or sticky weights?

kwikb16a2 05-Apr-2005 03:24 PM

letting air out does not make a difference aslong as the bead is still sealed

imported_cbishun 05-Apr-2005 09:14 PM

okay so they probably didnt do it properly to begin with

i think however stickey weights are on there now
