help, it cranks but doesn't start

Hey there,

Need a bit of help. I have a 92 dx.

On monday the car would not start, I didn't have a lot of fuel in the tank, figured it was frozen gas, put some gas and seafoam... off we went...

this morning the car cranks again, but does not start (3/4 tank full)...

been getting a bit less gas mileage lately, but thought it was just weather...

I've checked for loose wires, timing belt, sparks seem fine....

anyone have ideas on what's going on?

possible water lock?

howd you check the timing belt?

and you said spark seems fine? How do you know that as well?

Either way, problem is most likely your cap. Pull it off and check it out.

LOL ****ing troll, of course you can prime a fuel injection system. you turn the key twice to the on position w/o starting it. the fuel pump primes and delivers pressure to the injectors without spraying any fuel. so when you do crank her over, there is already pressure at the injector heads.

Twice this week it wouldn't start again (still cranks)...

The problem disappeared for a week after a replaced the fuel filter...

both times the wouldn't start, it had 1/4 of tank left... or just a bit below 1/4...

I dump 10 litres in, it doesn't start...

I dump another 10 litres in, it starts...

(seems like the car will only start once the fuel reading is above half)

WTF???

Anyone had an similar experience... (faulty fuel level reading?)

As far as I know the fuel pump either works or it doesn't...

offcourse I could just make sure the fuel never goes below 1/2 tank... but still doesn't explain or help solve the problem...

even my mechanic friend doesn't know what to say???

WTF???

yeah sign of a bad fuel pump possibly. only way to know will be to check fuel delivery (pressure, not just the presence of gas) when it won't start. a fuel pump can work but deliver unacceptable pressure level. I'm surprised your mechanic friend doesn't know that.
