Unhappy help ~Lug nut broke in half~

Yesterday i took off my summer tires and put my winter tires on.. i was successful with the 2 fronts...

I preceeded to install the back one.. as i used the compressor tool to take out a lug nut, it broke the nut in half and now the nut is stuck in there.. what can i do get it out?

would this be an option? remove the rear drum along with the rim?

is this possible? I was thinking of drilling right thru from behind the drum to save the rim... and get new drums.. any suggestions?

U NEVER USE A COMPRESSOR TOOL TO TAKE OUT LUG NUTS
ESPECIALLY AFTERMARKET ONES

yes i know this info is useless now.. but at least it will help others n ur future knowledge

what can u do... um.. maybe take it to a performance shop
see if they have the tools to take those out

what part of it broke?? We need closeups of the lug. The drum won't come off w/ the rim cuz the hub is attached to it.

This is the best shot i have cuz i never took a shot of it.. i just photochoped a random pic....

Is there anything screws holding the drum in place? Couldn't i just wiggle the drum off along with the rim?

OR

couldn't i consider taking the trailing arm off

the drum won't come off with the wheel... the lug nuts hold the drum with the wheel to the hub. The hub has a massive nut in the middle that hold it to the spindle, which is on the trailing arm. even if you went through all the trouble of removing the trailing arm, you'd still have a rim attached to it and no way to get to the backside of the assembly. You have only one option, and that is to remove the broken lug. Is it broken, stripped, cross threaded?? exactly what is the problem?

the lug nut is broken and the threadings part of the lug nut is in there as if it's never been moved by the tool...

now if i can get to the massive nut in the middle of the hub then i can get the drum off right?

I think its split and not enough clearance to pull out in two pieces.

You need to use VISE GRIP PULL and twist counter clockwise.

Righty tighty lefty loosey...

CT has a tool that bits into lug nuts and twist them out when there broken, take it there and see what they can do.

And about the comment not to use air gun on lug nuts is not totally true, on OEM lugs its fine but aftermarket dont seem to be as strong so id watch out, but for OEM ive used it and never had a problem. You could do the same thing with the stock ratchet as well if the lug nut was bad.

theoretically yes, but in practice I've never tried it... that nut may be surprisingly tight. I think you should focus on getting the lug nut off rather than the whole hub assembly.

try hitting a socket onto it. i think its 16 socket that fits over a lug nut. just use one if u have one sitting around that sextra or go buy a cheapie socket. u should have no problems taking it off then

i've tried using sockets, tools, clamps... basically after what i've tried.. there's nothing left of the nut only the threading which is deeply screwed in....

so what are my options?

- CT tool that bits into lug nuts and twist them out when there broken
- could try taking off the whole hub assembly.
- anything else?

Do you have any idea what it's called and it's cost?

PM PULOVR, I think he got this done by CT when one of his snapped like yours.

I dont think they charge anything, just put up a fight and tell them when they did a tire change they put the lugs back on too tight and now you cant get them off

well last nite i drilled the lug nut into pieces and it's still holding...

I have a questions...

1. Does anybody know if the wheel bearing is part of the hub?

2. Does anybody know if the hub assembly off of a 96' SI will fit in place of my ek hub assembly?

3. Also when i was trying to take off the back plate i wasn't able too because it seems to require a special tool. Does anybody know what this tool is called?

it won't fit, there's not enough space around the rim to fit the tool.. it's so frustrating...

see the thing is this..
i already took off the wheel by drilling through the centre cap and prying it off and then taking off the huge centre-bolt....
the back plate is still held up by something behind which requires a special tool.. do you get what i'm saying?
