hedman chikara in 98 Si
aite so i picked it up on sale from performance improvements a few weeks back... got a few buddies at CT to do the install for me
performance is improved.. ***BUT theres a horrible rattle at idle.. i took a look under the hood and theres CONTACT with the block at the point where the 2 pieces connect..
i also took a look at the install instructions insert and it says its for all civics except the EX...!!! (the u.s. Si) WTF...!!! so I called performance improvements and the dude said, no dont worry its the right part... b/c the cat is after the header.. which made sense.
but still, i dunno.. that contact with the block makes me weary.. it cannot be intentionally designed like that. maybe i'll take a pic.. the rattle is even worse when the a/c is on..
***its also running pretty loud.. is that from a leak? or something else.. used both gaskets it came with (paper at the head and metal at the 4-2 connection point). didnt use any sealant anywhere..

Where is it hitting the block? Right at the studs or where the downpipe curves undereath it? Or is it the Flange for the header and downpipe that is hitting?
I had the same header on my D16Y7 non-VTEC engine and it fit no problem.

it's not just on your engine man, fit the same way on my d15b7. All you have to do is take that flange to the grinder a little bit, you'll need to take off about 1/8" on a 45 degree angle so you don't grind into the hole the bolt goes through. will take like five extra mins to do a slight mod on it and will be much better than doubling up gaskets. Another thing you should consider however is adding a piece of flexpipe into your exhaust again, unless yours is different than mine it came off with your stock y-pipe right before the cat, without the flexpipe there your car might become a little shakey at low idle.
ohh also the reason it's loud is because you have a leak, with that flange sitting on the block neither of the flanges are sealed properly, your friend at CT never should've put it on like that, honestly an extra five minutes of work at most, could even do it with a file. I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow for you so you can see exactly where my had to be ground down a little.
