Heatshield problem?
I've had a rattling sound in my car at 19 km/h, 39 km/h, 59 km/h etc.
I've been told that this is my heatshield. My question is should I just get it removed? what are the pro's and cons? or is there any other way of fixing this annoying rattling sound? |
From what I've been told, a heat shield cuts the chances of the grass catching fire if you park on grass.
To me, that makes a bit of since since it absorbs all that heat but then again I might be wrong or 1% right. Here's what webster's says on heat shields. heat shield n. A barrier that prevents the heating of a space or an object by absorbing, reflecting, or dissipating external heat, especially a protective structure on a spacecraft or missile that dissipates heat on atmospheric reentry by melting and vaporizing. Note: I also notice the rattle sound of the heat shield whenever I hit 2500 rpms. A Honda tech said a clamp "might" solve the problem but who knows, I'm sure someone here would know more. |
rip it off, don't park on grass.

everything is there for a reason. Which heat shield are we talking about here? the one for the cat?

cut em off, obviously they are there for a reason, but i personally woudn't pay to get them replaced when getting them cut off has been serving me well so far and is also FREE

If it's the heat shield for the Catalytic Converter ... you don't need it. Mine was rattling too and so I had it removed.
If you're talking about the heat shield inside the engine (above the headers) I had a problem with that rattling a few years back and Honda replaced it for free. Apparently there was a recall or something on it and fortunately for me the car was still under warranty. |
