Heat Shield

alright not sure what section to post this in, BUT

my heat shield has started to rattle like a *****... its brutal

I narrowed it down to the shield behind the headers.. looks like it rusted out and broke off from the bolt..

How can i get it out without unbolting my heads? cause it wont pull out but its completly loose.

imported_Joe_98Si 11-Aug-2006 07:19 PM

try to bang it out with a hammer or something

Cynikal.Mindset 11-Aug-2006 10:58 PM

pry that motha off...if one part is rusted out the other is likely close behind...pry, pull, hammer...get it off

imported_Rayz_si 11-Aug-2006 11:06 PM

Buddy, no need to panic. This is your honda's baby teeth falling off except you don't get new ones lol.

This happens to almost all civics, just as Cynikal says, pry off that mutha, bend it, break it but don't **** up the )s sensor wire if you're around it.

imported_d16y8 12-Aug-2006 01:52 AM

I ripped mine off with a broomstick lol

LDX 12-Aug-2006 07:40 AM

Mine rattles!

imported_Sir_Civik 13-Aug-2006 10:44 AM

so i broke the last bolt that was holding it on, now theres no way to get it out from behind the headers. so its just sitting there loose. ****! i think my only choice is to weld it back on. i dont think i can even do that. :(

SiR b16a2 13-Aug-2006 01:14 PM

lol, just try to take it off somehow man

imported_Christof 14-Aug-2006 01:24 AM

lol, I just bashed the **** out of mine, heat sheilds are lame

imported_plzbeleiveit 14-Aug-2006 08:09 AM

if you take it off youll get an extra 5hp its well worth it.

VTEC_Thunder 14-Aug-2006 09:10 AM

C'mon man!!!

Grab onto that thing with a pair of vise-grips or something and rip that beotch outta there!!!

Cut it, pull it, bend it, destroy it, anything, just get it out.

imported_plzbeleiveit 14-Aug-2006 09:23 AM

But it is true...

Cool, I'm gonna remove mine sometime this week then.... I always thought there was a purpose.... but now I know there isn't one.... why did Honda put on there anyways? protection?

Since this issue is solved, I thought i'd ask my question (also about shields) without starting another thread....

Just recently (yesterday actually) the shield that goes over the catalytic converter (I think) was loose and dragging on the floor, so I beat it off with my club (engineering excellence at work).... so, I was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to replace it, to protect it from rocks, water, etc.?

of course they were put there for a reason. If it's the header heat shield.. it protects some of the heat from going into the engine bay

imported_plzbeleiveit 14-Aug-2006 02:19 PM

no need for the sheild around CAT its usless as well, serves no purpose. Just extra weight as well.

chris_si98 14-Aug-2006 02:38 PM

you have/had a heatshield around your intake?

imported_plzbeleiveit 14-Aug-2006 02:45 PM
