Heat insulation wraps
 

Hi guys, I would like to know more about heat insulation wraps. Like how many types are there and if so, which one is the most recommended? This thing shouldn¡¦t be that expensive right?

no point on a stock engine

Why is that? Because it doesn't rev high?

for wrapping a header?

I don't know, I was thinking the steel intake pipe, or some other rubber tubings.

for an intake tube i guess it would help... expessially if your tube is aem aluminum thing that take absorbes heat eaily

So, where can I buy some of these wrap then? Are there different brands?

underhood heat is in the air... you are sucking in underhood air...wrapping an intake pipe will do nothing for the temp of the intake charge.

wrapping the headers, it would be okay, it'd lower underhood temps a little, but in reality unless you are really tuned to the max with hot as hell EGTs, there is no sense, the factory heat shield does a fine job as it is.

I see, so those heat shield is there for a reason where the aftermarket headers are exposed to air.

header wrap makes a difference on aftermarket header(s) that are exposed and dont have a heat sheild over them by "trapping" underhood ambience.

the heat is contained in the header itself, but more heat is transfered to the motor (head) and the exhaust system.

heat wrapping has a point on EVERY engine...and wrapping headers and intake is a good idea!

there are many options for wraps but for intakes you can usee anything from insultions wrap to hockey tape (proven for heat resistance)

but for headers you need to think of heat tolerances and fire so i would recomend summit or somthing for those applications cause there is alot at risk if a fire starts under the hoood.

a heat shield helps reflect head but it does NOT contain it and the disapation of heat into the air is gogin to effect the over all engine peformance by increasing the ambient temp of the engien bay..if you are using a short ram this is a bigger deal but if a cai is in place then it not too big an issue.

i think alot of the time guys dont wrapthier header cause they want to show them off but as ugly as wrapping is it make a GREAT DEAL of diffrence int eh amout of time your car will last...an engine that is running nice and cool will have less of a load on the rad and the cooling system will be far more effective (also the oil cooler if you ever get taht deep into tuning)

there is NO DOWN SIDE to wrapping headers or intake (cept maybe the 1lb of weight that it may cost you. SO DO IT)
