Headgasket

Hey guys I have a B18 motor that I got from a friend for cheap, its in good shape except the headgasket needs to be replaced, I was thinking of just replacing it.

The head and block are already apart[upper containing the cams and lower containign the 4 cylinders. ] and sitting in my living room.

Can i jus rough sand or clean away the old seal and debris and from inspection as long as it is clean and looks to form a good mating seal jus get the gasket and sealant and bolt it back up?

how much do shops usually charge for this type of work, assuming it is opened up already as it is and needs to be assembled back with the seal

how do u know it just needs a headgasket and not rings and seal etc?

would be a shame to put a new HG in and find out there is no compression

I agree with Matt..

but if you must, grab a torque wrench and haynes manual and put it back on.Theres a torquing procedure you must follow with the head studs. Honda also recommends to replace the head studs..

dido to chris

Also while you have the manual and torque wrench you might as well torque the lifters..chances are they need it

oh yea...u should also throw some oil on those cams and wrap the head in a plastic bag or something...last thing u want is ur cams to dry up
