Anyways, if ya have no intentions of upgrading the head, I'd suggest getting a 4-2-1 to minimize the loss of tq. though minimal every bit counts IMO
If ya get a 4-1 design it'll be excellent in the vtec range and if you feel as if the tq has dropped pick up a Spoon ventuli plate to try and gain it back some, I've heard nothing but good reviews on the ventuli plate HTH

perhaps someone else can give a more detailed explanation, meanwhile here's the extract from Spoon Sports website
"Racing engines are machined with extreme precision and feature filled in intake ports. This is done to make use of the ventuli effect which is a fundamental of fluid mechanics. Specifically, by smoothing a portion of the intake port and making it narrower, it is possible to increase the speed of the air fuel mixture. By simply inserting this component between the cylinder head and the intake manifold, it is possible to obtain the optimum port shape for the above mentioned ventuli effect. When the speed of the air fuel mixture is increased this way, the efficiency of combustion inside the engine is improved and power increases accordingly."

Just in case nobody is reading my post or does not understand what I am saying - I apologise. So, let me put in prespective and restate myself.
- as mentioned in the qoute "..smoothing a portion of the intake port and making it narrower, it is possible to increase the speed of the air fuel mixture..." I said, that in my post, basically, having the ports more narrow, you can speed up the air flow, which causes a faster and more accurate air and fuel mixture. Don't beleive me? Try blowing through a tube and them cover the tube half way, you can difinitely feel the defference in air speed. The engine works the same way, the faster you get the air in, the better power that it will produce. Just remember, fuel and spark does not light up without air, that is why you cannot light a fire in space, rocket fuel is mixed with oxygen. However, too narrow will cause a decrease of hp in the higher rpm.
- In terms of the headers, you can choose the gauges (size of the ports) for some companies, but those can be expansive, and you are only looking at max 2-4hp. The 4-2-1 set up is the same as the stock Si or SIR, but not the same for EX.
