How much hp could you get from headers on a stock EX? And how much can I get some for? Would it be comletely pointless to get headers without doing the rest of the exhaust? Reason being that I don't want to keep the car quiet, but get a little more power out of it. I don't want loud exhaust. Or would it be pointless to get larger exhaust, but keep the stock or another stock honda muffler.

A header itself wont make too big a difference.

You have to un-restrict your whole exhaust system to make it worth it.

best is to do the standard intake, headers and exhaust along with some intake manifold upgrade. this should give u atleast 10hp to the wheels. dont expect much inprovement from bolt ons.
true power comes with engine work and boost.

screw your header..... do a small turbo set up! you could piece one together for the price of 3 good headers probably!

I don't know why anyone would want a half-assed ghetto turbo setup....theres doing something on a budget, then theres wasting your time/money doing something ghetto.

Theres no way you could do a "simple" turbo setup for the price of 3 headers ($1000). Even peoples "homemade" turbo setups sell for more than that.

Intake/header/exhaust is a good place to start when modding a car for performance. But like someone mentioned before, don't expect miracles, its only a 1.6L SOHC engine. You can get an aftermarket exhaust system that flows well and isn't all that loud. My setup isn't that loud (until i go wide open throttle, then it screams) and it flows really well.

I paid $400 for my "decent" brand new header for my b-series.

Man, with $2000 you'd still be VERY hard pressed to build a turbo setup. Even if you did almost all of the work yourself.

I'm currently deciding whether to finish building the LSvtec i've been building for over 2 years, or to sell off my parts and build a turbo kit. I KNOW for a fact that it will cost me over $2000 to peice this together, and that with me doing the install and tuning myself.

But if you wanna buy someones used kit, you can probably find one for around $2000. But when it comes to buying a used turbo, watch out.

My buddy bought a $1600 "ebay" turbo setup...but still managed to spend over $2000 after buying injectors, tuning, a new wastegate (b/c the cheap one that came in the kit broke after a few weeks of use) boost controller and dyno time. And this was with his brother doing ALL of the work installing the turbo kit modding the exhaust, etc etc etc.

If you are gunna do it, do it right the first time....its cheaper that way....trust me, i've seen it over and over. People wanna do something on a budget (which is ok) but skimp out on certain things, then have to buy stuff again, spending more money than if they would've just done it right the first time.

okay okay i'm wrong! I didn't buy it, the one I was looking at was the greddy 4-2-1 for around 650 before taxes. The rage headers are up there too. Anyways yes I see what you both mean. I didn't take into consideration the labour, I was just thinking if you took the time to find decent deals piecing together a system. I know it would take a while but you could find everything for under 2g.

Do yourself a favour don't buy a greddy header for $650 plus tax, thats a rip off for a header that isn't anything special.
I got my vibrant j-spec 4-2-1 w/2.5" collector brand new for $400.

But yes, you could definately find the PARTS for $2000, i'll agree with that.
But then (if you can't do all of the work yourself, which MOST people can't) you'll have to pay for labour to install the parts, which would be anywhere from $300-1000, and then pay someone to tune it ($300-1000+ depending on what you use for engine management, hondata S300 alone is $600 US, neptune is $450 US, AEM EMS is $1800) and you for sure need bigger injectors ($100 for DSM's, $400 for a good set of RCs or precision).
Then you'll need a bigger exhaust (at least 2.5") which again, for mandrel bent custom exhaust you could pay $500-1000.

So just a little breakdown.
turbo - $500+ (i wouldn't spend any less that that on a turbo)
wastegate - $300 (get a new one, turbosmart, Tial, get a name brand)
BOV - $100-$500 (you can use a used one here)
turbo manifold - $200-1200 ($200 would get a crappy cast peice, $1200 would get a nice name brand, tubular equal length manifold)
FMIC - $300-800 (don't buy a crappy DSM sidemount, or something small and crappy off a stock car)
charge pipes - $200-400 (depending on what you use, i'd stay away from using rubber parts from a junkyard, you want stainless steel 2"-3" in diameter)
downpipe - $200-400 (i'd get weiRtech to custom make you one)
oil lines - $100 (definately wanna use a stainless steel braided line, don't use high pressure rubber lines)
Misc couplers, t-bolt clamps, other random stuff - $100-300
boost controller - $100-700 ($100 for a manual boost controller, more for a fancy electronic boost controller)

So you can see, by adding everything up (even by going with the cheapest prices i've put) you'll be spending $2100 and that doesn't even cover the engine management or injectors or a high volume fuel pump. So i would suggest using crome (you can get a custom tune for $300 if you already have a chipped ecu, more if you go to a shop like t e c k n o t i k) and at least some 440cc injectors (DSMs are crap but cheap, RC's are good but expensive....like $400) and you definately need a higher volume fuel pump, like a walbro 255lph ($150).
So again, going on the cheapest prices i've quoted it'll be another $550 for injectors, fuel pump and a tune on top of the already $2100 for the turbo parts....and you're still left with a sort of half-assed turbo kit b/c you went with the cheapest options available.
This doesn't include installation either, you'll pay anywhere from $200-1000 for someone to install it all.

So turbo your car for $2100?...not likely.....more like $4000 if you wanna do it right.
Sure you can buy someones used kit for $2000, but you're taking your chances with a used kit. You KNOW that kit has seen its fair share of abuse b/c no one turbos their car to not kick the crap out of it. But to use some used parts, like a used blow-off valve, or used oil lines, or used charge pipes, or a used boost controller.
