Hard To Shift Into Reverse

First gear to 5th gear swifts super smoothly and no noises or anything.
however reverse gear feels hard to shift into and sometimes it doesnt come out of the gear and i have to play around with the clutch and gas a little to have it come out.

what could be the problem????

time for a new clutch maybe? or do you think its something to do with the shift linkage?

the car rolls from a stand still on first gear using clutch alone and picks up pretty good.

prolly forks inside the tranny from ppl forcing it into gear (since reverse isn't syncromeshed)

imported_Team Rukus 13-May-2006 09:00 PM

how can i make sure?

anyone else?

imported_kon-yue 14-May-2006 12:37 AM

my car was like that too
but than i shift to first than into revers and it goes it
but you can also just let off the clutch a bit for it to go in

imported_truonger 14-May-2006 04:50 AM

my reverse is messed up too, sometimes i have to struggle to pull it down, or put it against the side harder and then throw down.

i find myself having to sometimes put it into another gear before i can throw it into reverse.

lol same.. pisses me off when im tryin to quickly do a 3 point turn and all these cars are waiting and i cnat get it in reverse,

imported_kon-yue 14-May-2006 01:39 PM

i hate doing 3 point turns with the reverse gear lol

k people this has nothing to do with shifting into first or another gear to be able to put it into reverse.
thats normal for honda's.

this actually doesnt shift in or out.
shifting it is really rough even if i run it through another gear first.
and taking it out of reverse gear is even harder because it feels like its in lock.

check if your exhaust is rubbing onto the shift linkage...i had that problem

otherwise shift linkage might be messed up

ya read your owners manual says you have to shift in to first then reverse. or any gear. except 5th. i hate when i read stuff about how reverse grinds. makes me mad that people dont take the time to read their owner manual.

trinituner-EL 16-May-2006 01:04 AM

do you hear any noises when you press the clutch pedal?

and is the clutch fluid dark in colour?

sounds like clutch to me.. did you adjust it at all?

VTEC_Thunder 16-May-2006 04:27 PM

I was thinkin clutch too...or the adjustment there of...if it is adjustable....

My civic sometimes doesn't want to go into reverse, i let off the clutch in neutral then press the clutch in again and it goes in smoothly....but it sounds like your issue goes deeper than this.

Not sure what to tell ya....how many km's on the stock clutch?

imported_Team Rukus 16-May-2006 09:25 PM

yea i think its the clutch aswell.
thanks alot guys.

i am getting it changed tomarrow so hopefully it will be gone.

This should have nothing to do with your clutch.
You could try checking your your shift linkage bushings for ware.

Does your idle drop a little (or rise) after your done backing up and trying to take it out of reverse?
If so this is rather common and nothing to worry about.
when your engine revs up or down (even a small amount) it changes position causing your shift stabilizer to tighten and lock your tranny in gear.

Hope that helps
