handling???

Alot of ppl on this board clain that their new springs or coilovers lower their car and gve better handling. How do u test this , I can bet that not everyone that says this has been to a track to test out their suspension setup but some have. By better handling do u mean you take turns at 60km/h to test your new suspensin setup , b/c if u do that is way more dangerous than some other stuff that is frowned upon on this board .

How do ppl claim their car handles better with better suspension components?I mean jus everyday drivers. not sper track racers.

Jus wonderin

When you lower the car properly, throw in f/b sway bars and get some decent tires. You will feel the car stick to the road a lot better and the body roll will be reduced a lot. You can just take it to any big parking lot and toss it into a turn....then there is always the markham by pass as well

Realistically you probably shave only a few seconds off a lap time on the track, but only if you were a professional race driver. The lowering of the car lowers the centre of gravity, and reduces roll in the car. This will make it harder for the car to loose balance and take enough weight off a wheel or two to spin you out.

Just the other day I saw a RSX-type S take a high speed exit off the highway. He braked too late and I watched the cars weight shift heavily forward, the rears tires kick loose, and his car end up back first in a 10' deep ditch. Poor kid - insurance is going to rape him. With a 2" lower car the stiffer springs and lower center of gravity would have reduced the forward roll and kept more weight on the rear tires.

Simply put, the most traction your car will see will be equal weight on all four tires. When you corner hard you change the distribution of weight - to the outside tires (especially outside front). The lower your car and the higher your spring rate, the harder it is for your car to move that weight. Sway bars work by distributing the weight from the outside wheel back to the inside wheel.

It also allows you brake harder and maintains the stability of your car.

A lowered car will compromise comfort, but the added stability and safety is well worth it. As soon as the suspension was upgraded on my Jetta, winter driving became much safer (a lowered car in the snow will handle much better that one with stock height).

That is true, but then you become a "snow plow"

My civic and my jetta are both dropped about 2" and I have been known to plow snow, but I commute 50km to waterloo (lots of snow there) from another hick town on roads that don't get plowed. I never got stuck once. Period.

Even in March or April when there was that big snow storm this year. the civic was out, going down the 401 at 120 and getting off the Mississauga exit ramp with snow going over the hood. I still made it there - snow plow or not. Lack of power steering also helps the winter driving - you know very quickly when you loose traction.

I would rather plow snow then crash my car or spin it out.
