b16...hands down.
The b16 has shorter gears which is absolutely necessary on b16's b/c of their lack of torque, so the shorter gears get it up in the higher rpms quicker and keeps it there.
The only con of a b16 tranny is that the 5th gear is too short so when driving on the highway at 70MPH your at 4,000rpms. A LS 5th gear in a b16 tranny is perfect IMO.

ITR/b16
GSR is good too, but gsr tranny's with LSD are much harder to find than ITR trannys. Plus, if you get a jdm itr one it has the 4.785 final drive...mmmm.
You can get away with a gsr tranny on a crvtec b/c it makes a lot more torque than a b16 does....meaing it can handle the longer gears. Its not like theres a huge difference between the b16 and gsr tranny anyways, but its enough difference to slow down a b16 pretty good if you use a gsr tranny.

I am using a GSR Spec Tranny with my b16 swap. If you look at the specs the Y80 is used with the GSR and JDM SIR II. I am using the stock tranny that came with my JDM swap but I am pretty suer its the same one used it USDM GSR's. I couldn't complain, still pulls nice, but also the RPMS on the highway are still to high.. which they were made with 6 gears instead of 5

it would pull even nicer with the b16 tranny.
1st gear is the same on the b16 and gsr tranny, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th are all longer on the gsr tranny.
The Y80 tranny was never used with a b16...it was used with the SiR-G (jdm gsr).
The pre 98 ITR tranny is also labelled as a Y80, but the gears are the same as the B16.
Plain and simple the GSR tranny is no good for a b16 IMO...as the gears are just too long for the torqueless wonder known as the b16.
