GSR motor with SiR tranny?

yo guys, I've a friend who's curious as to how this setup would do? Give me all your opinions please :nods: TIA :)

NA - I'm sure it would pull nice and hard - tourquey with short gears

so why is it better than a GSR tranny? Does the GSR tranny have much longer gears compared to the SiR ones?

SiR-Racer 24-Sep-2002 09:30 PM

I would think that a GSR tranny would be a better match for a GSR motor since the readline and vtec engagement points are different for the SiR. Could be wrong though.

B16 and B18 are almost the same, infact they ARE the same.
You can straight drop a B18C GSR into SiRs(6th Gen)

Then you ask, what's the difference?
Yes, you are right, Gear box.

If you have B16 and put GSR gearbox, you will have 170 or 180hp
if you have B18 and put SiR gearbox, you only have 160hp or so.

How does a GearBox change the HP reading?

you meen the tourque would change don't you?

BB1-4WS 25-Sep-2002 06:39 AM

Engine hp and torque will remain the same regardless of what gear set your using. It may rev up quicker, hence the feeling of more torque, but that's because the ratios are different (taller).

Pick the tranny to whatever application and power levels your at. An engine with slightly more midrange power would benefit more with a GSR transmission. A gutless motor will sing better with a B16 or ITR transmission.

are you guys SURE?

I heard some guys put NSX tranny 6MT on D16 gives 260+ hp

6MT man, one more gear, more power, make sense???

if that's the case.. sign me up for an NSX tranny yo!! I got the D16 allready... heheh

i think what vince said is correct... the more gears u have, the faster u can have the rpm's rise, thus feel like quicker response. but that means moooooore shifting!

civic_hb96 25-Sep-2002 12:15 PM

GSR with a b16/itr tranny will be quicker then a GSR w/GSR tranny.

b16 w/GSR tranny will be slower then b16 w/b16 tranny.

its all in the gearing. shorter gears= quicker acceleration but you lose out on the top end.
longer gears=slower acceleration(especially with torqueless motors) but you gain on the top end.

the key word is quicker not faster.

you can mate a stock b18b/b20b with a short geared tranny(ITR/SIR) and it will out accelerate/or be equal to any b series vtec motor until a certain point/gear because of its usefull mid range torque. after that, is when hp comes into play and vtec motors takes over.

imported_SW20 MR2 25-Sep-2002 01:01 PM

This is why I want a JDM 98-SpecR tranny. It features the 1-3 gears of the ITR tranny with the 4th and 5th gears of the GS-R tranny and the 4.785 FD. Sooooo nice... :D

And this is exactly why Camille's cousins B20 Hatch rips a 13.2 on street tires

huh?
who said I read anything??

Anyway, I still believe D16 can have 260hp, all it need is a 6MT or even better, a 7MT tranny. Case close.
