GSR Engine build - Opinions Please

Hi,
Looking to build a GSR. Looking to get about 180WHP. I was thinking about Blox Intake Manifold or S2 ITM, Cam Gears and possibly Blox Stage A camshafts or S2 Stage 1 Camshafts. Does anyone know how close I'll be to my goal of 180WHP with these 3 upgrades. Of course I already have intake and exhaust. Will I need retainers and valve springs? If anyone can suggest other setups, I'm open to suggestions. This is a winter driven car as well, so good driveability is a factor. Thanks Guys.

well assuming you already have a free flowing exhaust and at least a decent header with 2.5" collector, i say with good tuning you should be pretty close.
With a stage 1 cam, only the vtec lobes are bigger, so it'll be like stock until vtec kicks in, but with stock compression you're pretty limited on what you can run with good sucess.
If you wanna rev past the stock rev limit, or run anything bigger than a stage 1 cam, you NEED better valve springs/retainers, and more compression and all of the bolt-ons.

Thanks for the help guys. Are CTR pistons required at all? Since higher compression is better right. Or would fuel management system be more worth investing in?

Anyone know if those Chromoly Crower Retainers can work with any type of dual valve spring or just the single stage 1 Crower Valve Spring?

i'd use matching valve springs and retainers....mixing different valve springs with different retainers isn't the best idea.
I wouldn't use CTR pistons in any build i did.
You can mill the head a bunch if you wanna increase the compression.
As for engine management, a chipped obd1 ecu and a solid crome tune is more than sufficient.

What about changing the GSR Valvetrain to Integra Type R or CTR Valvetrain? What do you think the rev limit would be? Would I be able to do 8500rpm? I'm not really into going to 9500rpm or something like that. Trying to save a bit on cost and since most ppl say valvetrain doesn't increase HP, not totally sure if I want to spend the extra $400 unless I need to.

Valvetrain doesn't directly increase HP, but a good valvetrain will enable the cams to rev higher before you get valve float. Cams rev higher = more power, if the cams can make power up there.

ITR/CTR valvetrain would be a waste of time to install IMO, unless you only EVER plan on using ITR/CTR cams or stage 1 cams.
Still if you're going to take the time and effort to install different valvetrain at least use good stuff.
There is someone selling supertech valvetrain on here right now for like $360....jump on that, supertech is good stuff.

180whp gsr motor....port match the oem manifold, fakedata im gasket, 3" CAI, Blox A/S2S1 (same profile) or CTR, decent header with 2.5" collector, 2.25-2.5" mandrel catback, no cat, no ps or a/c. that should get you close to 180whp with a good Zeeman tune. i don't like most of the aftermarket IM's for the P72 head. the oem IM makes superior mid-range, something you'll never get back after changing to a single stage on a basic set up. lastly, an IM change will shift your redline/peak power which in turn will pretty much force you to upgrade the VT. with such a basic build, i'd just install an extra pair of oem inners to the exhaust side with those cams. check the spring pressure first. with those flat pistons and lower c.r. Zman could fill that map up with a good amount of timing...as long as you run premium gas. thats good for a few extra hp. peak numbers mean ****, its power under the curve. we all need to get these numbers out of our heads. its forcing us to make bad decisions..like the people that sacrifice 10wtq in the mid for 4whp up top (the losers that remove the gsr's butterflies)

Will the Blox A/S2S1 or CTR still work well with the stock IM? I've heard of the p72 head having problems lining up perfectly with the aftermarket IMs. Sorry this is a noob question, but can anyone explain exactly what a street port and polish consists of? Does is affect reliability at all?
