GrindinG
It's true, i've done my fair share of gear grinding. My civic is my first manuel, i learned from scratch on it. At first when i started, from time to time, i would grind. Whether it be from letting off the clutch a lil early and trying to switch gears, or just simply not paying enough attention as a beginner. Regardless of all that, my ride is now starting to make some noises. The sound is only noticable from 1-2, and sometimes a tiny bit from 2-3. Kind of a clanking sound... hard to describe. Sounds almost like the heat shield when it's loose... kind of. What should i be prepared to replace? Thanks in advance guys/girls, i wanna be running smoothly and this is the time, considering i no longer grind/stall.

Sounds like you've ground the synchros in your transmission to a pulp with all of the gear grinding in the past.
Your basically looking at rebuilding or replacing your transmission. In the meantime a temporary(and I stress the word temporary) fix is to change out the fluid with GM Synchromesh MTF. It's been known to get those last few miles out of the transmission. |
might as well replace it

yea change the clutch if u dont there might be a slightly different angle on the new tranny from the old tranny and your clutch its wear down soooooooo fast and u have 2 get it all removed again and get a new clutch put in dont waste time and money i did that :( and im regretting it

Ouch, this sucks. Thank you for you're time boys. Can someone direct me to a good place to have this taken care of? Thanks in advance, much appreciated :D

How old is your civic? You might want to make sure that it actually isn't a loose heatshield before you go and get the new tranny. Also is it a consistent clanking, or just one quick kind of pinging sound?

I should have asked you this when I first posted, my mistake.
How many KM are on the car? Does the clutch slip at all, or is it physically more difficult to change gears due to a stiffer shifter? If the clutch isn't slipping it is most likely the sychros in the transmission. If it were me I'd try the GM Synchomesh fluid as there is really not much to lose if you need to rebuild the transmission anyhow. Taking it to a mechanic to have a peek is a good idea. Best of luck. |
