punkindrublic 04-Sep-2003 12:03 PM

i just used all purpose grease...

bbarbulo 04-Sep-2003 12:03 PM

haha... not KY... lithium grease mah man! white fine grease... melts in your hand :) also check PM!

imported_gatherer 04-Sep-2003 12:04 PM

Lithium grease ... doesn't Marty make that stuff?

bbarbulo 04-Sep-2003 12:06 PM

nope gatherer... Marty would know nothing about that... already checked.

punkindrublic 04-Sep-2003 12:07 PM

so what are the advantages of using this lithium grease as opposed to regular?

bbarbulo 04-Sep-2003 12:22 PM

rubber bushings get attacked by most petroleum based grease :shrugs: check material specification sheets of petroleum based grease and rubber compounds... SOME rubber can handle it, but lithium is the **** when it comes to bushings. Unfortunately it gets washed away when used UNDER the car, but as long as it stays in the bushing, it's good.

There is a reason why things get recommended by major manufacturers... they have multi-billion dollar testing/engineering budgets, I'd say go with what they say :) If they say lithium, so be it. Also, I think their engineers have taken a materials course or two.

imported_loudsubz 04-Sep-2003 12:31 PM

bruno: does lithium come in diff colours? when i took out my shift rod the grease was like a dakr grey, or was that from overtime mixed with dirt?

bbarbulo 04-Sep-2003 01:35 PM

over time the bushing wears into the grease, turning it a grayish color. lithium grease brand new is white. other possibility is that graphite is mixed into the lithium grease for added protection, which is unlikely.

Matt, you have PM :D

Whiplash 05-Sep-2003 03:10 PM

Matt, i made you a special blend today, me thinx even bb would like this shyt..

white lithium, high water and heat resistence, excellent adhesion properties and a good helping of graphite....
i was gonna use moly cuz it's even finer than the graphite and is twice as slick but people here seem to have a H-O for graphite so....
