Is this a good price for ... ???
Hi there,
I currently drive a 1998 Honda Civic SI coupe and recently, I got the following replaced:
- All 4 Shock Absorbers (2 front, 2 back)
- the 2 front tie-rod ends
- the 2 front lower ball joints
It was also brought to my attention that the mechanic had to go to a machine press shop to get one of the ball joints that had been pressed into a plate of some sort. this cost the mechanic $150 bucks.
at the moment, I've paid $500 for labour (was supposed to be initially only $400 for labour but he charged me $100 more for getting the ball joint out from that machine shop), and $600 for parts. (therefore $1,100 total)
was this worth it?
if so; awesome! if not, please let me know where else I could've got this work done and the price.
input/comments/suggestions/critique/opinions/etc. greatly appreciated.
thanks.

no way it cost one fifty to press in a ball joint. that costs 20-30 dollars each, so 40-60 bux tops.
all in all.... depends on the parts used. tie rods are about 40-50 each, ball joints are about 80 each, and shocks can range wildly.
it's about 4-5 hours of work total, usually at 70 dollars per hour.
you do the math...

actually if you read it correctly, it says $150 to press out one of the ball joints.
I've paid a shop $20 before to press out a balljoint. Another shop tried to tell me that it would be an hours labour ($80, so i laughed in their face and left).

labour wise... you could've easily save half the cost if you goto scott newman.... parts, if you're a member... you might get oem parts at a discounted price....
so $1100 is just a regular retail everyday price.... you could've probably save about 300$ by some chance (it all depends on the shock absorber you're getting)
hope that helps
