I have a Skunk2 dual bend short shifter... It is coming in contact with my exhaust... the bottom of the shifter extends too far and vibrates up against the exhaust. Can I take off the heat shield so it can clear the piping? Does the heat shield actually do anything significant... I know some other people have done this but I dont wanna get ahead of myself and screw something up!...

anyone got some input?

You can take the heatsheild off. Any car that we have owned, we've ended up taking it off cause it eventually rattles.

I had the exact same car as you with the exact same shifter and it also rubbed the heatshield. The shield is welded to the top of the exhaust, but it is very easy to remove with a torch. Any shop could easily do it for little to no cost. You can also bend the exhaust hangers slightly to give a bit more clearence.

so were there any side effects from removing your heat shield?... any reason why I shouldn't remove mine?
