Glazed or not Glazed
Okay I Rebuilt my b16 dec 05 . ive used Royal Purple since New! most ppl would say that is were I went wrong and I most likly Glazed the Rings... but i drove it steady for awhile b4 i really drove it. giving it time to work itself in with this Oil, Now I know VTEC does Burn Oil, which my engine only seems to burn oil when it really PUSH it to the Max I dont really see much oil Consumption otherwise so im assuming that this is just VTEC ways of working... I know this Oil is Expensive and toppin it up is always a drag cuz of the price tag. I was thinking more other brands I could most likly use. I want this engine to last thats why im using Synthetic Oil. what others would u Preffer for usage if i ever seem to change my point of Veiw's on this Brand.

glazed the rings?
You mean that you think that the rings didn't seat properly?
Well IMO, if you break it in like a granny, taking it easy, thats how the engine is going to like to be driven. But if you break it in like you stole it, then thats how its gunna like to be driven.
I wouldn't ever put synthetic into a honda engine, not unless its making 600whp. Its not a ferrari, it doesn't need a $50 bottle of oil. I mean, honda's have been lasting forever on regular oil for years and years, why use synthetic?....just my opinion.
How much oil are we talking here? 1L every week? or like .5L every 3 months?

I read a great article not too long ago about how to properly break in an engine. It was certainly not a conventional method, but the guy had credentials, and I believe he built motors and hasn't had a problem to date. He says you need to push the car like crazy in the beginning for the engine to properly break in. And I have a feeling he used synthetic since day 1.
If I find the article I will post it here.

Piston rings seat when there's load put on them.
Everyone that I know (including me) who has ever built a motor, the first thing they did was drive to hamilton, go up the mountain in a high gear so the engine is under load. Do that 3-4 times, then take it for a few nice gear pulls and you're done.
Also, get it tuned right away.
