getting the timing belt alligned

Hey

I'm trying to change the timing belt on an EF(ED), and I can't get it so that the crankpully cog and the camshaft cog are alligned when I tighten the belt. I will have them alligned when the belt is loose and then I tighten the belt they go off. I am doing as the manual suggests and rotating the belt 3 teeth before I tighten...

is there a trick to this or something I'm missing?

just start one of the pulleys biased in the direction opposite to that where it ends up. so say the crank pulley ends up biased right when it's tight, then start the crank pulley that far over to the left when it's loose, by the time you tighten it, it will end up aligned.

ive never had problems with this. Your doing osmething wrong, i also never use the 3 teeth method of tensioning them. Make sure you have hte front side of the belt tight , then work your way from the crank, aroud the pump, around the tensioner and finally the cam sprocket. Do you have the tensioner locked in the loose position.......


No offense but if you cant put a belt on one of these you really shouldnt be touching your car. They are about as easy as it comes.
