Gearbox issues

so im looking into to buying this 94 integra but it has some issues...one of them being something to do with the gearbox...

the guy who's selling it is saying that the car wont shift into gear when the RPMs are very high (3000+) especially in 2nd gear. Is it the shifter bushings? clutch? tranny oil needs to be changed? or the gearbox itself? I'm kinda new to manual transmissions and i don't know much about these things. if anyone has heard of this sorta thing please let me know if the problem is major or not. your help is much appreciated.

Sounds like the syncro's in the tranny are going or gone. 2nd gear usually goes first in most manual tannys. Mine will crunch into 2nd from time to time when i get on the gas and really rev it.

If it's as bad as it sounds, it will need a new tranny.

yeah i got the same tranny as you Thunder.. 00SiR Tranny my second gear makes noise too up around the higher revs but still it goes in nice.

As for the question... its mostlikely the syncros try replacing those or else get that tranny rebuild theres a couple good guys on this site that rebuild trannys

Yeah, same here, in my 00 SiR, 2nd gear is the "crunchiest" but still goes in fully.... it's smooth most of the time, but when I'm really bootin' it (well, as bootin' as an SiR can get) it crunches sometimes

The thing I found with the 00 SiR is, if you powershift, it loves it! Powershifting it goes in like a hot knife through butter!! LOL

But if you lift and just shift quickly above 4-5k rpms.....*crunch*

dude i cant powershift in my car... and above 4-5 its not bad its only 2nd gear..

I have a 8pound flywheel. and a typer crank so the rpms drop to fast.. besides you can quick shift just as fast as a power shift.

I know you can quick shift as fast as a powershift, but my car likes a powershift better than a quick shift. Mine will crunch into 2nd only as well, but only if i quickshift.

I have stock clutch and flywheel, clutch is starting to get tired. Time to upgrade!!!

How come you can't powershift? You hold your foot to the rug, jab the clutch and shift as fast as you can...

From what i've read so far on other sites it sounds like it could be the synchros....any chance it could be something else?

If it's the original clutch, it could be a worn out clutch, but my first guess is synchros are toast...

worn clutch can cause these issues

but over time the issue will just become the fact that the tranny is crunched up synchros shot gears chewed up

I would say use it as a barganing tool and throw a gsr tranny on there

and stop power shifting you idiot that is why your tranny hates you

you dont' need to "powershift" only losers do this in a attempt to make their low 15 sec car 1 half tenth faster

you can shift fast without tearign your tranny apart

I find that in the honda world people just rape their trannies so bad for no good reason

Heh, hasn't happened to me..... usually I shift normally into 5th, you know, when I get on the highway.... I haven't had the chance to shift hard into 5th before....

I guess ima have to get the car looked at by a mechanic....but what it roughly cost me to either have a used tranny put in vs. replacing the clutch? not that im looking to go the cheaper way out but just for a rough estimate....obviously im talking regular shop prices and not honda dealership prices....

I don't powershift all the freakin time man!!

All I meant to say is when racing, mine like the powershift better when i'm racing....not hurting anything...only done it a few times...

99% of the time I shift normally with no crunching at all.

Only crunches a bit time to time into 2nd and into 5th in normal driving....NOT racing.

Don't put words in ppls mouths...I hate when ppl don't read what other ppl said before they comment...

Aside from that, Yeah if you can get a good deal on that car and swap in a gsr tranny....
