Unhappy Gear box problems with my 2000 SiR

Guys,

Anyone out there with a 2000 SiR that is having gear box problems?

I had a problem with my 5th gear when the car had about 8000 KM. I had Ready Honda change my 5th gear and the syncro and to tell you the truth, the car has never been the same.

I hear wierd noises from the gear box, i hear my 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th gear grind. I have difficulties trying to put the thing into 1st at a stand still.

I brought the car back to them and they are telling me that it is all in my head. They then decided that they were going to open it up and see what was wrong. That was back in September. They said that they were going to order a whole new box from Honda and that it will take a couple of months to get one.

Well, i went back to them as they called me in Feb of this year and said that they could not get a new box. They wanted to see once again what was wrong with the car. They said they found nothing wrong.

What the hell am i supposed to do know. I hear a lot of funny sounds coming out of this box and i really want to take it to Honda (another dealer) to see what they can do.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Francesco.

Go to another local dealer first and tell them what you hear/feel. Your shifter forks may be bent.

I did put in the Nuespeed short shifter as the 5th gear was replaced... do you think that this could have made a difference?

Yes, that will wear out synchros faster and make you put more effort into shifting making it feel slightly notchy. What MTF are you running (what fluid is in the tranny??) You should buy Honda MTF and change the fluid. This will make a huge difference.

I'm not so sure that short shifter has anything to with making the synchros wearing out faster.

But bent shift forks... yeah that could do it...

Are you still covered under manufacturers warranty?

Yeah, I am running with MTF in my gear box. And i am actually on the phone with Honda right now as i can't believe that this thing is causing me so many problems.

The car only has 25300 KM on it and this is a load of BS!!!

I should still be covered under the warranty as i believe that there is a 3 year BTB and 5 year on the power train.

Must be a manufacterer's defect. For a car that has only 25,000km should not have any problems with the gear box yet. Go back to Honda and talk to the Business Manager. Bitch the **** out of him and tell him that your going to complain to consumer reports. Hopefully this will work. Good luck dude

I would talk another dealership. I got a 00 Civic SiR I take it to Formula Honda. They are great!! Ask for Ivan, Get him to test drive your car. Ivan is the Forman he is the best tech their. Also ask him to inspect the shifter forks.

This really sounds like something is wrong with the syncro. Tell them you don't trust Ready Honda because of what they did to your car and you want this problem fixed immediately. You might also want to talk to the Regional Manager for the dealership this guy goes from dealer to dealer he's like the head guy to talk to. Also talk to Scott Clarkson he is the Service Manager this guy used to race cars for a living get him to take your car for a test drive as well. First get Scott to test drive then Ivan. These guys are serious professionals.

P.S Honda has a bulletin for a sycro problem on the 00 SiR’s. This is not out of the ordinary. And you’re within plenty of warranty.

Dude (00 Civic SiR)

Do you have the bulletin from Honda or do you know where i can get it?

Have you had any sync problems with your SiR?

I am going to call my buddy Angelo at Formula and see what he can do for me. My car is at Rexdale Honda right now being looked at by one of their mechanics. I just don't know why these guys can't get it right!!!

Thanks

I had the same issue with mine. I had to argue for 2 weeks to get my dealer to fix the tranny, and they swapped the syncro's, and after that.. i heard every gear! brought it back, they said that they would get me a new one... well, 3 months later, when Honda Canada said that they couldn't get a new one, they sent me back to the dealer to fix the one that was in the car. Problem was that the Apprentice that the dealer had working on my Prized beast used a mallot to make the transmission fit together, and damaged the main bearing. Well, once I got it back.. the problem is still apparent. grinds from 2nd to 3rd at higher revs, hard to stick into first gear.

Aren't the dealers great?

P.S: no worries, this was not a Toronto Dealership, and I still have faith that not all dealers are the same.

VortechSiR, I think I may have raced you once on March Rd. by the big curve coming from Carp towards Kanata ... last big curve before the police station and the 417 Over a year ago now...

VortechSiR,

Do you still have this problem or did it get resolved by another re-build?

bbarbulo: I don't think that was me..unless the civic had OZ Superleggara's on it, and even then, I DON'T RACE

As for THE HOOK's q, They just replaced the main bearing that they damaged, but it is still difficult to get it into first, and it still grinds 2nd to 3rd, but it's not that bad.. only in higher revs. I just gave up on the dealer. I feel that everytime I bring my car in there, they do a **** poor job of fixing the problem, and they cause another problem in the process.

when i bought my car (00 dx se) it did a very mild grind at around
4000rpm going from 2nd to 3rd. i guess my car changed to my driving style a bit and now it only does that same grind at like 5500rpm. however if i don't shift fast and kinda pause a bit it wont grind. it's not hard to get in 1st.
i don't think i should be worried, but what do you guys think???

Talking

Guys,

I left my car with Ivan at Formula Honda in Scarborough and he found and corrected my problem.

The problem was the shifter bushing with the shifter linkage. Ivan pulled this little bushing and lubed the hell out of it and man... it is like band new. I am happier than a fly on ****.

Nice clean precise shifts and costed me a total of $95 to get my pain staking problem corrected.

My advise to all SiR owners... if you have shifting problems, go see Ivan at Formula Honda.

Later and thanks for your help.
