I recently got a 1996 Civic CX hatchback. In the owner's manual it says that it should have a 45L gas tank, but when I filled up today the needle was close to empty (maybe 1/8 left) and it only took 26 litres to get it back to full. I also notice that when going up or down hills the needle will move to more or less full until I straighten out again. It is getting good fuel mileage but it seems like the gas tank needle is inaccurate (it shows full when the tank is full but like I said shows empty way before it should). I dont really care but I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

this is normal behaviour unless someone removed the needles for a white gauge face install sometime previously. doesn't matter, DX/CX clusters are a dime a dozen.

Its a common problem, as Bruno mentioned. Ive gotten used it too, and now fill up my tanks based on km, not the gauge.

plus, the empty tank light will come on when about 5L of gas are left.... and if the light comes on (stays on), fill up your tank... it should be about 37-40L of fill up... i think my tank is 40-42L, not 45L tho... but then i always fill up my tank whenever i hit about 500-550km... then i would fill up about 38L of gas......

when a civic is empty the needle will be below the E mark...like a whole needle width past the E
