Gas smell emitting from my car.....

Ok i noticed aftre the power out incident aroun that time my car started smelling like gas when i drove it and when it was parked you can smell it from outside the car standing around it and while being inside it.

It seems to only smell when I put gas in the tank..... like I will be on empty and needing gas so I go fill it like say 15 bucks worth, and it then the smell will be around and stay there but when the tank is getting near empty the smell isnt as bad

I parked it over night and checked under it on the ground for leaks but nothing was there....

someone said my gas tank could be 'sweating' ..... and someone said I might need a new gas tank

howevre my cat converter just went...... could it be that?

your tank is perssurized near the end of the tank ... most likely you have a small leak letting the fumes of gas out....

Does it smell like eggs or gas?

imported_echien 26-Aug-2003 06:49 AM

could be a leak in the tube that runs to the tank, it only spills when you fill up.

imported_echien 26-Aug-2003 06:51 AM

or someone could be stealing your gas and spilling it everywhere.
:)

keep in mind that a small drop or two will evaporate overnight. it'll have to be a big leak in order to see a big puddle

my crx did that and it was the positive teminal on my fuel pump rusting and letting the vapour out and the seal in my in car fuel gauge hole under the back tool holder/illegal seat its a posibility for you

it smells like gas not egg

like gas from a gas station..... just raw gas

i even leave the car parked for like 2 hours at my work and back it up look under no drops puddles nothing

Bring it this wednesday so we can sniff out the problem.

im thinking the Fuel filler neck, or like white92d15b7 said, the fuel pump...
