gas smell

one day about a week or 2 ago i sat in my car and it stank like gas and still does whenever i let the car sit overnight etc. The problem is I haven't noticed a change in mileage or any gas leaks from the car sitting. What else could be causing this smell? There isn't anything in the car that would smell like this...no bottles of any chemicals or anything...

If the top of the tank or sending unit is weak, gas fumes can escape causing the smell. If this is the case you may not see any on the driveway. Also a small leak in the return line can cause this.

The gas tank itself is about 1.5 years old. I don't know about the lines...but I do notice that when I'm low on gas it bogs down for a second when I first accelerate from a red light. It's also done this a few times when I've had like 1/2 tank.

you should take the cover off under the car and physically inspect the gas lines around the tank. I've had to fix them there and where they com through the floor under the back seat.

if you had a fuel press gauge, that would really help you diagnose the problem

My car stumbled a few times today in various gears...it was making my exhaust do that pop pop pop sound.

Lack of fuel? Lean misfire maybe.

well...I peaked under my car on the driveway and finally saw a few drops of what smelled like gas on my finger. But, the drops on the driveway were not directly under my gas tank so I do think it's something with my gas lines.
