Gas consumption
Hey guys, I drive a 97 Civic CX. Just bought it with NOTHING on it (that i know of). I'm using up around $20 for every ~350km. The highway to city driving ratio is about 50/50. Am I using an excessive amount of gas compared to other stock civics? I'm asking this because I thought that stock civics are suppose to be very gas-economical, but from this result it seems to me that it's not a total turnaround from my dad's old passat. Any ideas?
btw. I just had a tune up 3 weeks ago with a filter/oil change.

I have no idea, cuz i know my car is a little on the thirsty side too, i only get like 450 km to a 25 dollar tank? it's a pain in the ***, cuz with my 93 hatch it'd get like 600km easy, it was sooo sweet.... i just assumed that it was a bigger engine plus my intake maybe made me spend more gas......?

Mileage
I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX SE.
I used to use Bronze fuel.. I would get about 700 to 750 km on one whole tank of gas. That's 50L (You can work out how much a tank costs by market value).
I recently made the change to premium fuel. I find that it gives me better acceleration and more fuel economy.
I spend 50/50 of my time on highway/city.
I gased up recently and my speedometer was about 450 km past when I last gased up. I gased up 26L. That means I can get about 850 km on 1 tank of gas if you do the math.
850 km is nothing to complain about.
If your car is using up a lot of gas, get it serviced. It could be because of a clogged air filter. Try changing that first. Oil changes usually change the filter that you have.
Civics are very economical cars so they shouldn't be drinking gas like that. I get 850 km out of mine, probably cuz it's new and there's nothing wrong with it yet.
Hope this helps...?

I get about 400-450 km on full tank in my EL. Thats mostly city (heavy traffic) driving and using the A/C, so your fuel economy does seem to be a little off. Have you had the fuel system flushed and/or changed the fuel filter? This may help out, as your fuel system may be clogged.

mines a 94 cx and can get around 450 from a full tank of gas city driving
don't drive too agressively and shift at 3000rpms
try changing your air filter and go to the shop and do a fuel injector flush..that should give you better fuel econmony..
and oh yea..chaning the o2 censor will give you better fuel econmony too if you havn't changed it recently

I do about 3000 rpm for shifting that's about it ...
on highway sometimes i go around 140 which translates to maintaining about 3500 rpms that's it ...
it takes me like 30L to get 350km out of my car
what's the problem?

How does changing the O2 sensor help????
i'm asking because my engine light turned on once and my mechanic checked it and said it's the O2 sensor ... but he said he just turned the light off and we'll just see what happens when the light turns back on... in any case he used this computer to check and it was the O2 sensor that was the problem.
do you think that's my reason for the low mileage? for the fuel injector flush can i just use those additives to put in your fuel?

well basically the o2 censor tells the ecu how much air and fuel is needed to burn..if your o2 censor is not working properly, your ecu will run in limp mode and will be running a little rich.
So if your mechanic just turned the check engine light off and you still have not replaced the o2 censor, that's probely the cause of your bad mileage.
injectors are supose to spray fuel like a mist and if it's dirty or cloged it will spray unevenly and wont' burn all of it up.
injector additives will not do much if your injectors are already dirty or cloged. additives will keep them clean longer.
So i'd suggest you replace your O2 censor first
then if that goes well , you can have your injectors flushed at a shop if you havn't done it in a while.
i think honda recommeds to do it every year.
and if the filter is dirty replace that too..
now you will see better mileage after you've done the above.

Yeah, I went to emissions test today it BLEW up ... my HC and CO are WAY above normal. I only bought my car for 3 weeks from the dealor and I'm trying to get them to fix it for me. But those blood-thirsty suckers probably will have a million excuses and tell me to fix it myself. This is the first time I'm buying a used-car (and first @ buying a car as well) .... a LOT of lessons to learn.
Hopefully the O2 sensor would be ALL that is the problem for my car ... at least to pass the emissions test in the first place and hopefully better my mileage.
The fuel filter (according to the Canadian Tire Emissions guy) is good. But in any case O2 sensor is first and hopefully step by step I can get this car back to normal.

I usually fill up around 400-425km. I don't like driving the car til the tank is dead empty so I'm sure I could go farther if pushed. One pet peeve of mine is the bloody gas guage that will fluctuate just by going up/down the slightest of slopes or taking a corner.

what mines does, it goes to 1/2 real slow , and my odometer reads 300km. and then all of a sudden it goes down to 0 real quick as my odometer rolls to 400km.
it's F&cked
I almost have to use my odometer instead of the damn gauge!

Mine does that too...
Hill's are a bitch...
Slight incline and I have a quarter more gas than I thought...
Flat and I'm saying WTF..
The dealer you purchased the car from should have sold it emission's tested before you bought it...

the gas gauge messing up must be a civic thing, cuz my 5th gen hatch did the same thing, and now my 6th gen coupe does it too.... when you take a sharp right the gas level drops but if you take a nice left it goes up! lol i just assume it's somewhere inbetween! lol
