FUEL SAVING and RPM
It is a question regarding to SAVe some FUEL. ( The GAS price is not just sky high is pretty much to the MARS now)
For fuel saving, there are two key points that I have always followed: 1. drive less agressive, shift at 3000rpm 2. put to neutral when I see red light and let it go until I need to place on the break. But recently there is someone telling me that: AT neutral the cylinder still feeding gas to maintined the idling rpm, However, if you see the red light ( say at 150 meter away in 5th gear about 2500 rpm) and you just release the gas paddle, not putting it to neutral your ECU will actually stop sending fuel into the cylinder until the Rpm reach some where around 1500 or so, depend on cars Is that true,? I totally believes it if it is apllied to NEWER CARs, but the question is now: are those B16 a2 using this kind program and what's the BEST driving stradgy to save fuel HAHHAHA if your answer is "WALKING" or 'PUBLIC TRANSIT" THERE ARE IN MY OPTION BOX NOW thanks |
dont put it in neutral, leave it in gear and let it slow down to the stop, you use less gas. I can't remember if honda shuts off the fuel completely while deaccelerating, but I know they shut it off when you take your foot off the pedal. Anyways, keep it in gear.

or is it recommended to stay in the last gear you were in until you slow to a stop? |

shift at 8rpms everyday thats gets me far n saves money lolso far i got 270miles on my tank of gas n still got 1/4 left driving normaly

both my D15B and ZC gives me 500km on 40L gas, which is a good thing, consider i drive pretty aggressive

just put it in neutral every time you go downhill

Al right , so the conclusion is to leave in the gear, regarding to the down shift, I don't think it is required, cause it wears out your clutch in a very minor way, but still they adds up, Thanks guys

IMO brakes are easier and cheaper to replace than a clutch, so i don't really downshift too much.
When i come to a stop, i'll toss it in neutral and let the brakes take care of slowing the car down. |
I know someone dida few gas tank comparison at torontomaxima.org they came to the conclusion at least with the 3l maxima motor that its high rpm that kills gas milage, not a heavy foot, though with a civic u really wont get much oomph below 3000-3500rpm if you keep shifting around there you will probably end up better
I tried it on a b16a usually I shift around 4500-5000 i dropped it to below 4k i got about 40-50k more per tank |

5 grand is pretty normal if you wanna pull out nice coming into the next gear.
shifting at 3000rpm is using your motor like 35-45% of what is was intended to do. you **** your girlfriend for only 30% of what you need? |

shifting below 3k is a ***** when you have a lightened flywheel of some sort, i usually shift at 4k or just before vtec 5400 |
I always go by the rule "the higher the RPM, the more fuel you use". Not sure if it is right or wrong, but when I come to a stop, I just set in nutural and brake.

i'm going through some gas consumption issues right now that are still trying to be sorted... doesn't help that cruising at 120km/h means approx. 4.3krpm....
