Fuel milage from 550 down to 400 or less a tank!
 

Crazy fuel milage i am getting on my 90 civic hatch with SOHC NON-Vtec ZC... runnin DPFI... 5spd!

For the past month or so my milage has gone WAY done.. it couldn't be that cold outside here in teh gTA could it.. I dun't really warm my car that long so it doesn't idle that much, half city and half hiway as usual... and i only get 400km a tank if i drive VERY SLOW! lol...

After my engine swap it was 550 a tank.. which is acceptable.. but 400 a tank????? what happen to my 150km there though! ARGGGGG...

I miss my old slow motor.. haha even though it was a 1.5L it gave me IMPRESSIVE milage 750 on a TANK!!!!! lol...

Didn't really mod or touch my car lately... the most was a recent oil change from regular oil to synthetic and the most a bottle of STP fuel injector clearner and that's about it.. few weeks afterwards i'm done to 400km a tank of gas!



I know that when winter comes the fuel milage will be down a bit which is ok if it was off by 50km a tank which is fine.. but 150?? humm...??? It was runnin rich to begin with when i had 550 a tank..

any suggestions.. plannin to change my spark plugs and wires

u should have kept ur old motors:p
see what an engine swap can do to u...hehehe ey u take something and lose something too, in this case u grabbed some HP and they take away some of ur gas mileage...fair?

Perhaps your driving style has changed? Idling and the weather will decrease your mileage but not that much.

Check to see if your throwing any codes and do a tune-up.

^^^if both of you read his thread properly it says that he got better gas milage after the swap.


the reason you are loosing 150 km if definately the warm ups.
i am loosing roughly around 100 km aswell.

to be honest with u...im always nice! and i didn't start this nuisance aight...im here to share and learn from experiences.

and yeah...u can probably do a winter tune up to tackle ur problem

Anyways, tune up sounds good, valve adjustment sparks, wires all of the above stuff.

BTW when did you do the swap?

its all fun and games...until i beat you at kbbq and then you have to get a ride to your house from your ex-car since i will take her home.

wow what happen to my thread.. became something else! lol..

anyways.. just did my plugs.. 2 of the 4 plugs were pretty bad up.. the other 2 were ok which is weird..b ut whatever fresh new ones in there! lol..

hopefully it'll run better now.. on my gas mileage at least! lOL...

My driving style still the same at least for the past tank of gas.. cause the ones previously was because I would heel and toe almost every gear.. but this tank i kept it normal and SLOW!! LOL.. keepin my rpm at under 3000 every gear! :-)

he didn't exactly swap in a high performance engine, its more or less the same (specially if your running DPFI instead of MPFI), your fuel efficientcy shouldn't have changed that much.....maybe time for a tune up...but warm ups definitly hurt your millage...

^ in the winter gas companies have addatives so the fuel wont freeze (even though it shouldnt, but better safe than sorry)

^^ im not too sure if tis so it wont freeze, but they all have addatives.

petrocanada says its got "super clean winter gas" which is a load of BS cuz every company does that so theres nothing special about petro

id say the coldness, ive been runnin around 400-450 down from 500-550 in the summer. just warmups and cold starts

I agree. Its a better comparision if you compare mileage performance i the summer where ambient temperatures are hot. Right now in Winter time, cars have to work more harder, thus your mileage is dripping down low now. It's normal for this time of the year.
