front suspension ?

for the last few days I have had a 'knock' noise coming from the front end of my car when I come to a stop and even in between shifts(usually only between 1 to 2). Sounds like a single knock on a heavy wood door just before I come to a complete stop. I can also sort of feel the vibration of the knock on my clutch pedal. It sounds like it is cominf from the suspension but its had to tell. Any ideas? I really hope this is just a look bolt or something simple! Thanks

check your cv joint to see if the boot is torn and if all of the grease has leaked out. Does it click at all when you turn?
Check your ball joints as well.

its not the CV joints. no clicking at all and i had them replaced recently. its just that deep knock noise when i stop and in between shifting(i presume it happens because the car slows between shifts). what should i be looking for on the ball joints?

to see if the boot if messed up and if the grease has leaked out. Try jacking your car up and trying to move your wheel in and out. Grab it from the top and bottom and pull and push towards and away from you to see if there is any play. Try grabbing the sides of the wheel and pulling and pushing. If there is excessive play, well any more than just a tiny little bit, i would say ball joint or possibly outer tie rod.

depending on how bad it is you can prolly still drive it, but drive it gently. just check for anything loose in the front susp.

Hey what was the outcome of all this? I have some of a similar problem. but I also get the clicking sound when turning which would say CV Boot... However, the one in question is less then 6months old, and the boot is not torn. Is it still possible it can be bad even if the boot is not leaking or torn?

for balljoints and control arm, you don't need aftermarket or whatsoever... go with OEM HONDA parts... never go wrong with it...

it's hard to say the cost until you know what it is. I did both front lower control arms on my Saturn using very nice NAPA parts (new, not rebuilt), and it was about $300 for parts. I did the labour. But on Civics, the balljoint is in the steering knuckle, so it's ~$80 for the ball joint each side and you need to have a shop press it out and put it back in. Carquest machine shop does this kinda thing.

and yeah, OEM parts if you love your car, high quality aftermarket like MOOG if you just drive your car... and el-cheapo aftermarket if you gonna flip the car.

you know, it would be cheaper, cuz honda charges regular price for parts you need, so you'd get a discount on parts at least.

as for free inspections, I doubt it. I've never gotten anythng free from a dealer. but you can swing by Midas or Speedy and ax them if they do it fo sho.
