Front Struts problems??

Front Struts problems??
I have been reading reviews and flipping through the local paper as I get ready to buy my "Brand new, second hand" Civic. I am thinking 2001/2002 SI-G.
I have noticed MORE THEN ONCE, the following concern;
The front struts seem to be replaced very frequently!!! Is there a problem with these?? Has there been a recall?? Is it just bad design?? Hmm.....maybe I should consider the Protege 5....
Input, thoughts, ideas about the 2001/2002 SI-G

I've read that Honda had problems with the front struts in the 01 and 02 Civic/EL wearing out prematurely, so during the later part of 02 and for 03 they started using a larger diameter strut (50mm vs. 55mm) similar to the RSX struts. If you have an 01-02 Civic and still under warranty, Honda should replace them for you. As far as I know, the struts are the only real problem with those years. My 03 has 27,000 k's and has been totally problem free.
