The Frigid Cold vs My Car...
Well I was on my way back to Windsor tonite/this morning...when I'm comin around the 403 Hamilton near main street when the water temp rockets, heat stops and the sweet sweet scent of coolant is in the air...so I pull over and not to my suprise there is a nice trail of coolant behind my car and a puddle forming under the car.
While I'm sitting on the side of the road with my dog Brutus as my company an OPP pulls up and asks if help is on the way etc. so he goes back to his car and a couple minutes pass then he comes back gives me back my licence and asks me if my dog and I wanna come and sit in his car so we do. Now me and the dog are sittin in the back of the cop car (hopefully the first and last time) its pretty comfy back there I should add...ample leg room etc and I'm a big guy. I must mention that this officer was one of the nicest ones I have met, so we shoot the **** for a while and tell him how fast I get to windsor (2.5hrs) and usually its a good 3+hr drive "legally" he laughs at it.
So I call my mom (she has caa) and they come with a nice flatbed to take my civic back home so I can gander at it tomorrow in daylight, I'm thinking the lower rad hose decided to spring a leak cuz I'm guessing some coolant froze in there and when pressure built up it went POP and out it all came...I hope this is the case so its a quick fix and all is good (well aslong as its any hose I'm happy) its gonna suck workin on it tomorrow but seeing as its not driveable it leaves me no choice (and I refuse to pay shop price labour)
So, now I'm awake and not back in Windsor where I should be for my birthday today...hopefully I can make it back by evening so I can party with my friends out there.
fellow TCC members please hope the best for me that its a hose and only a hose!

so I checked my hoses and all are fine, no holes, bursts etc. when I pulled the rad out the drain plug wasnt as tight as I think it coulda been...I turned it about 1/8th of a turn before it was good and tight. could this have been the source of the problem? like ice forming around the plug and "forcing" it out just enough that under pressure it would spring a leak?
all the other hoses seem okay, and I guess the last culprit would be the rad, but that looked good too and seemed to hold pressure...oil is normal colour, coolant was nice and green...I hope it was the drain plug
any other suggestions?

Cynikal, I'm going to the Beach tonight, formerly Howl at the Moon... on Ouellete Ave just before Wyondette. I'm wearing a red Phat Farm sweatshirt... holla at me if you see me. Happy B-day!

well the coolant was comin from the passenger side of the motor so I guess that would rule out the water pump...and not to mention that after tightening the drain plug and refilling the coolant and letting the car run for a good half hour there were no leaks...I still need to road test it tomorrow
bbarbulo,
dude, I didnt make it past hamilton lastnight so I'm still in the Toronto area...I'm sure I'll meet up with ya in the near future though...have a few for me though
