Flushing out Gas tank
 

Im going to be installing a new 255 fuel pump, And also doing an energy suspension kit... So i figured while the rear end is going to be up for a few days I might as well dropp the tank and flush out all the crap that has most likely built up over the past 200,000km... Then install the new fuel pump , new fuel filter :D nice clean system ready for the swap come summer.



So question is whats the best chemical to flush with... should i youse some sort of varsol or is there special products ment for this...? or is it even worth my time to do?

It dosnt look like much work, just the 2 straps beneath and a few screws under the seat :confused:

Try a product called ZEP found at Home Depot. Its a calcium lime & rust stain remover. Make sure you protect yourself when using it.

I'd just use some clean gasoline. If I'm not mistaken our tanks are coated inside, and you don't wanna put the coating at risk by introducing some strange new chemical in it. Also, the tank is at most risk of blowing up when empty, the fumes are extremely volatile. Use extreme caution and keep all sources of spark/heat away from the entire work are. It would be prudent to do it outside where it's well vented and where you don't need a lamp or anything.

I was thinking fresh gas, but i figured there might be some tar buildup to get rid of... I suppose that would never get sucked up by the fuel pump anyway if its binded to the coating. main concern is getting the loose **** out.

why would there be tar in there?? what the hell have you done now? :D

u might have a drain...take a look...if so..thats ur best bet

when you do the math theres been over 400 tanks of gas run through that thing... dont you think there would be dirt and buildup in there by now?

I just remember rebuilding carbs back in the day and being amazed at all the **** I would clean out like gum, dirt tar whatever... from crap auto gas i guess.. Probably just overanylising a problem that doesnt exist lol

And the car has never sat since new, so theres probably just dirt on the bottem of the tank...

Ive heard of engine getting messed from sucking dirty gas in... I guess im just meticulous like that, like everything nice and clean..:D


not experianceing any problems BTW... Im just doing this to have a perfectly clean fuelsystem.

maybe you have some squirrels in your gas tank... lure them out with some nuts...
