filter element

i cancelled my order of my cai after hearing your opinions. i was thinking od just removing the airbox and putting a k&n conical filter element on the end of the stock plastc piping... ione of you stated that the aluminum of the aem intakes heats up ALOT and that the stock plastic intake pipe stays rather cool.... so, the main restriction is the airbox itself, correct? so a quality filter on the end of the stock piping should work well, no?

it will work and make noise, but the stock rubber tubing isnt flat and smooth on the inside like a pipe is...which is kinda restrictive and adds turbulence to the air...but I guess it would be better than the stock air box but is not better than a cheapo short ram intake

I disagree with C.M

I think just even a drop in airfilter from K&N would be good enough... but what mods do you have anyways, and where are you going with this? You want more power --- like a LOT more?

Or you just want sound, or what??? State your purpose

filter will help

the stock tubing is not that bad at all

more area and less air resistance will help

short ram id say is best for the buck, or DIY forced cold air

ok... i checked on a k&n filter..... and to my amazement, they are like 50 bux! i had no idea these damn filters were so expensive.... no one told me i could get a cheapo ramn air for the same price as the filter alone!

K&N is not as great a filter as most ppl believe. It flows well, but it doesn't filter out very very fine particles like paper elements do. I still use a stock unit.

Would it we worth it to sleeve an OEM intake arm for that sleeper look..

To eliminate the baffles in the intake arm.

I am running oem box with the lower resonator and horn removed..

I prefer stock filters..

if you want a sleeper look then get a comptech air box...it is better than the aem..then wrap the intaek tube with header wrap to cover the chrome and to block heat....just get a aem...it will fit most b series after anyway (b18c1) excluded...the k&n with the stock tube is still gonna pull you heat (cops) probobly..jsut remember to oil the filter adn get the recharge kit and keep it clean cause when it get's full of dirt particles will start to work there way threw over time if kept clogged...if you are on a big budget then jstu do teh k&n on teh intake tube

p.s I hate Short rams....cold air or stock airbox with a k&n panel is all I would do....or a comptech ice box

spoon filters are basically non reusable panel foam filters..I hate foam filters that can't be oiled they are useless at filtering
