A Few Urgent Questions!

Hey,

Ok i need to get a few things off my chest. I have been in the market for a header for quite some time. I first was searching for a quality header like hytech, Comptech, Toda hen after reading further i got the impression that I may not see the full potential of those headers because of my mild build. So now I am looking for a more "bang for your buck" header like the Vibrant j-spec, itr. etc. I wanted to clear up a few things about the ITR header because thats probably what im leaning toward. The 98+jdm headers are all 4-1 stainless? and the usdm are 4-2-1? Now I would be after a 4-2-1. I wont be reving too high. The motor is a b20vtec basically stock so i would definitely want a 4-2-1. I was on a few sites in the states that sell them ridiculously cheap
http://www.streetimports.com/product...ls.asp?id=410. There is many others like this and the price varies depending on steel type. Where do they sell the USDM knockoffs or a 4-2-1 version. I dont want DC or megan knockoff, i want a clean one like in the link. So bottomline:

Is a knockoff going to preform as well as a oem header?
Is the header in the link even though its not a 4-2-1 be a halfdecent choice and other knockoffs like it? How does the 2.5" collector join to a cat? Where can i get a 4-2-1 itr header? The CTR is a 4-2-1?. and who can sell me there header.lol

Thanks

when looking for headers, what you want to look for is thickness of material used and specifcally thickness of the flanges. A nice thick flange is better generally because they wont warp under heat like a thinner flanged header will do.

Vibrant is decent, and probably your best bet. I told you what happened to my Megan, and stay away from them.

Stick to stainless steel, and like Olds mentioned, thickness matters.

The ITR style headers are a proven design because their design works well with the Honda engines, so anything in that style will be decent.

Street headers are no race headers, so there's not too much you can invent. Stick with the proven designs and buy something of good quality, and you won't go wrong.

yeah, i'd stay away from knock off headers too. you get what you pay for. as for flange thickness, i don't think it is AS critical with n/a headers as it is with turbo manifolds that carry a lot more weight and stress as well as higher temps.

I have had problems with my own Megan header stemming from the studs they use. Two of mine snapped in their 4-2-1 design. And the gaskets they provide tend to leak.

problems with a cheap ass knock off?!?!?!?....no
lol.
Yes, the vibrant header is a copy of the JUN/T1-R header, but at least vibrant parts are quality nowadays and aren't made like crap anymore...which is more than i can say for most of the knock-off companies out there.
If a header (new) is cheaper than most people sell their stock JDM ITR headers for....its gotta be cheap for a reason....no company is going to sell something and not make any profit.
The edelbrock header (with 2.5" collector mod) is also a nice budget header, along with the JDM DC 4-1 w/2.5" collector (as much as i hate DC from my experiences, its a decent header).

ya I am having the same crisis here lol hard to find decent headers for good price even on the forum someone wants 250 for ITR headers thats a rip off

The 98+jdm headers are all 4-1 stainless? and the usdm are 4-2-1???? Why dont any companies make a usdm knockoff?

zeeman 12-Jun-2007 12:26 PM

aren't the usdm ITR's a cast manifold?
