few problems with LS swap

i recently had a ODB 1 b18b swapped into my 98 EL by a respectable shop.

I compression tested the motor and the numbers were

cylinder 1(closest to distributor) 175
cylinder 2 120
cylinder 3 175
cylinder 4 175

i recently changed the plugs with stock NGK's, MSD wires, new rotor, PCV valve, air filter, cleaned the IACV, and FITV.

the issues i have are that the plugs are showing signs of running lean(white ish color), and the electode on all four plugs are grooving down the middle evenly...approximetly(1500km on parts)

also when at idle the car tends to run rough but doesnt affect the idle, but it backfires when decealerating under 3k in any gear...it becomes less noticeable when i switched to 91octane...and my mileage is about 375-420km for 40L.

And lastly my oil seems to be disappearing between fill ups, there are no leaks and no burning smells, but yet i can consume anywere from half L to one L every 500km...theres black deposits on my rear bumper but i think thats from running rich at idle.

the shop is telling me that the lean condition is okay and that an engine running rough is sometimes normal with a swap. I really dont know what to think because this is an excellent shop when it comes to performance and magazine coverage but i still dont think somethings right here.

Im thinking it may be the timing is too advanced but im not really to sure?any ideas or advice is appreciated

sorry for the long read but i just wanted to be thoro.

i'd be concerned about cylinder number 2....definately something wrong with that one.
An engine running rough isn't common with swapped cars, and its not ok to be running lean.

How many times did you crank on cylinder tests?

120 definitely seems low.

yeah that one cylinder is fuct, and that's where your oil is going... it's getting burned in your #2 cylinder and getting deposited on your bumper.

the plugs will show the condition of the burn on the last running cycle. the #2 plug should be carbon/oil fouled.

the white on the plugs... that depends on what ECU you are using. if it's the correct ECU for the engine, then you might have timing issues, plugs that are too hot for the engine, or (I dunno if the LS uses an EGR system or not) possibly bad EGR.

kwasley----the shop provided everythin for the swap.

cablerat----i cranked it about 5-6 times each cylinder with the gas pedal floored.

bbarbulo----The ECU has LS written on it in marker....im definately thinkin the timing may have been advanced by the previous owner.

goose****----im droppin the car off nexx week at the shop..the motors been in the car for a month.

what is the code printed on the barcode sticker of the ECU? pics would help

you can check the timing with a timing light (might be available at canadian tire for rental, or buy it cheap at princess auto). but why bother... just have the shop deal with it, I'm sure you paid good money for the work.
