this is for the long run...

wondering what would be the best tranny match up would be for a b16 motor..

my tranny currently is fine..and has lsd..but im not sure if its a good choice..(is there a way for me to check what tranny i have exactly?) it seems to have longer gear ratios than would seem adept for this motor..

also.. i was thinking the best way to get a cheap route for power out of my b16 would be to drop in a crv bottom end..

was wondering if anything should be added to this process??

you want a b16 tranny for your b16.
Although, if you plan on doing a b20 bottom end i'd concentrate more on that then using a different tranny, but while the engine is out there would be no better time to change the tranny.
My buddys has a b20vtec with a LS tranny and its rips like hell and has decently low RPMs on the highway for cruising, so the longer gears of the LS tranny doesn't really affect it as much since the engine puts out way more power (torque specifically). But if you plan on keeping the 1.6L i'd definately get the b16 tranny. You could also use the GSR cable tranny, but they're sort of rare and hard to find, the gears are only slightly longer than the b16s gears anyways.

alright so the tranny i got (ls tranny?) would be sufficient with a b20vtec?

if only i could find someone who wants to swap a b20 vtec bottom end for my b16 :D

your LS tranny has a LSD?
I've never seen a LS tranny with a LSD.

IMO the LS tranny is ok with a b20vtec, but almost everyone on the face of the earth will tell you that you want a tranny with shorter gears. In terms of acceleration, the shorter the gears the quicker you will accelerate. But the b20 has enough torque/low end power to handle the longer gears of the LS tranny. B16's however don't make any power until 5-6000rpms so it needs short gears to get it up in the RPMs quicker to where it has more useable power.
If you plan on using this car for lots of highway cruising and you want to go faster than 120km/hr (with my b16 tranny i'm at 4100rpms at 120km/hr, which is ok for a b16, but a b20 has a longer stroke/larger bore so its not so stable at higher rpms and doesn't like being revved on constantly like b16s do) and are not overly concerned about making max power and having the fastest acceleration, i'd use a LS tranny, b/c it'll keep the revs to a reasonable area while cruising on the highway....or even a b16 tranny with a LS 5th gear (strictly for highway cruising) would be best IMO....this is what i'd eventually like to have on my car (boosted b16 EG) for my tranny.

prob is im not sure what kind of tranny i have.. i know it has slip since i dont have any one wheel peel.. but as far as more info goes..how do i check?

well the only way to check if the tranny has LSD or not, is look through the differential (with an axle out), if there is a bar in the differential it means that its an open differential (no LSD), if there isn't a bar then its a LSD.

In 5th gear at 120km/hr what RPM are you at?
