few engine problems

Hey guys, picked up a 93 DX hatch and it runs good but there are a few engine problems i'd like to take car of. Car has already had plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, coolant flush and oil change done a week ago. Steering wheel vibrates like a **** at stop lights most of the time too, so i'm thinking it has something to do with problem 1/2

Problem 1:
idle goes up and down, I figure a vacuum leak somewhere, any ideas?

Problem 2:
Turn on the AC and the car has power on for 2 seconds, low power for 2 seconds and does this for as long as the AC is on.

Problem 3:
Burns some oil, but when it decides to. For example, went to Rochester, NY and it burned 1L in 400km...but nothing on the way back. Went to Minden and it burned 1.5L in 250km, but a again, nothing on the way back. Burns nothing in the city either. And no, I don't beat on this engine, its got 238,000km on it and I need it to last atleast a year. When I removed the plugs, the middle two had some oil on them.

Problem 4:
Exhaust leak at the Catalytic converter. I removed an aftermarket crap exhaust and tossed it, but when I installed a used one it seems to have a leak at the Cat, i'm thinking I forgot a gasket, but all that I had was the round one that sits inside the cat opening

Car is a beater, but I do need it to last. It does run good, but I plan on having the AC recharged so i'd like to look into these other problems too. Engine swap is not in the cards...this is a beater so I can get a bike next summer. So besides maintenance, this car gets nothing.

Have kind of a similar issue with my A/C as it sometimes really bogs my car to the point of stalling at a stop. Wouldn't mind hearing your solution.

Is the cat new? I would just go under the car and start it.. check for leaks. Mine is leaking through a small pinhole around the actual body of the cat.

rough idle can be a number of things such as vacumm leak, iacv, throttle position etc.....

as for the a/c i would first fix the idle issue first and it might clear this issue automatically

burning oil could be a number of things again ie. gasket etc..

You can try using some of that orange, hi temp, gasket sealer around the cat. Basically, it's like a 'gasket in a tube' type of product. I use it on both sides of my gaskets when I replaced them on my old exhaust

I suggest switching to a higher viscosity engine oil than you are currently using.

Using 10W-30 high mileage oil right now with S2000 filters (got 5 to use up).

seems to have helped over 5w-30 I was running

I've been told to go even higher than 10w-30. But, thats just what I've been told when I had oil burning problems.
