FAQ on rear wheel bearing replacement? Yes or NO

Does anyone want me to bother with taking some step by step pictures to help the newbies out?

I'll be doing it probably a week today. Anyways, for those of you that care, feel free to reply.

My rear wheel bearing needs to be replaced, and I am thinking doing it myself.

Are you going to do it yourself?

it's an easy process but wouldn't hurt if you did. maybe there's a trick to it that I didn't know.
I say go for it!

Thats the front wheel bearing... the rear is even easier! No press needed!!

No clip either. Just a 32mm nut to take off.

DO IT!! DO IT!!

really, I'd appreciate some How-To contribution that I can archive. I know most of these procedures are simple, any able person can do it... but sometime ppl just wanna see pix0rs of what's involved. So yeah... if you could, that would be great! I should start taking time and doing writeups too, but I just suck at them.

Torrey, when exactly are you going to do it? Like on the weekends or week nights? Would you mind if I come along to work with you on this subject?

Thanks

hey just wanted to say i did mine on this is a really easy job!! i did both of mine last weekend in less then 20 mins!
mind oyu i had air tools but hand tools shoulnt' take more then 1h on a driveway...

here is how it's done

1) first remove all 4 wheel bolts with a 19mm (if using doing in driveway, break all nuts loose before lifting car, bot don't undo them just break em loose!)
2) if ebrake was up then take it off..
3) remove your drum. if it's being stubborn grab the biggest hammer rock, brick, etc. and smash the drum really ****ign hard.. don't worry it's cast iron. (note: beer makes this easier)
4) (check oyru rear shoes should have more then 3/32nds if not replace)
5) you'll notice that the big gold nut is kinda worped in 1 spot now take a chisel or a flat head screw driver and try to "fix" that nut you don't need to go too crazy it just helps
6) now here is the hardest part grab yoru 32MM socket (if oyu need one then call me @ 905-823-7841 i'll lend one to you) or go to CT and borrow theirs with their loan a tool program
and take a nice long bar and wedge it between your wheel studs like this

then have someone help you loosen the big gold nut in the middle.
7) take taht big screwdriver and pry the wheel bearing out (but try to pry using the space at the bottom between the 2 rear shoes.
8) now is where you ahve to be careful the whole unit should come out as a piece don't lose the big washer you will need to re-use it. take the assembly out and compare it to the new piece. if yoru bearing really was badly gone you may realise that the part where teh bearing rides on the knuckle inside may STILL be stuck there... take that race and remove it with a screwdriver...
then installation is reverse of removal...

tips:
-get NEW hub nut
-don't forget to stake the new hub nuts! (remember the old ones how they were warped?? take a hammer and hit the nut going from the top down more specifically where there is that little U channel)
-torque down those wheels to spec!!!! USE THE WRENCH!
-dont drink and drive

torque specs:
BIG gold nut: 135 LB/ft
wheel bolts: 80 lbs/ft

Good write up, it is pretty much universal for most Honda cars. I like how you explain the spindle nut section really well.

Spindle nut is torqued down at 134 lb/ft.

just a little tip, to remove the drums theres 2 bolt holes with threads... use a ratchet and 2 metric bolts (forget the size) and the drum will pop right off, no hammering needed! very easy even the most stubborn drums will pop off!
