Family dispute over a repair job !!! need opinion

So here goes it . . . .back in january my family aquired a pick up truck, a 94 ford ranger, drove it for a few days and the clutch went, my guess is because it sat for three years not being used . . . . so my dad asked me if i could replace the clutch i said noo problem buy the parts and it will be done. . . right from the get go it was a huge problem everything was siezed tighter than a nuns **** tranny bolts, starter bolts drive shaft bolts . . . all of it . . . so anyways i get everything undone with relative ease . other than the speed sensor bolt snapping off, and the lower crossmember siezed to the frame . . i examined the flywheel and against better judgement i decided to not to have the flywheel reground due to money constraints and i told my father that it would be fine without the regrind . . . so i get the cross member off and i make some home built bushing for it as he did not want to spend the money for new bushings so since the cross member mounts were slotted and i drilled solid holes in it the tranny was off center by 1/4 of an inch, there was one bolt also that i did not put back in the tranny to secure it to the motor because there was no room to put it in it was just too tight i told my father that i neded to use some steel wire to hold his VSS in the tranny and that i had left one bitch *** bolt out and that i would lock tite all the rest he agreed with me said just get it done . . . .so wit ha new clutch/pressure plate/release bearing i reinstalled the tranny and wired on his VSS everything worked fine !!!!! for 2 months he drove the truck around without a problem then one day i come home and he is freaking saying i ****ed up his transmission, i ****ed up the truck he was freaking . . im like WTF is the problem !! he was like it won't go into second gear or 4th gear im like well thats nothing to do with the clutch . . . on and on he went you ****ed my truck he won't even speak with me . . . so he sends it to a mechanics . . .the mechanic tells him that ther was a bolt missing from the transmission and there was wire holding on the VSS and this caused his tranny to **** up . . . how im not sure, he doesn't even change his own oil ii think he got taken for a ride . . . the bill for the repairs was 1700 bucks what was done was overhaul of transmission, replace transmission shifter boot, transmission fluid x 3, machine the flywheel, replacement of the slave cylinder, and master cylinder and replaceing the rear main seal 1700 bucks !!!!! so he is very angry with me because this rip off artist mechanic told him it was all my fault from the missing bolt, wired in VSS, and the fact i did not re gring the flywheel, but the clutch grabbed fine spun the tires with a 2000 and 4000 rpm clutch drop

so im wondering if this was really my fault or did my father get taken for a ride and is uslessll mad with me . . cuz its tearing apart the family . . . .

Your post gives me a headache. Next time use periods. I think it is your fault, do the job right or don't do it at all.

if you told your dad you were gonna do the job half assed and he agreed to it then its not your fault. i think you mentioned he said it was ok and he had money constraints ....

its both your faults.
1 your dad should have taken it to a proper mechanic in the first place

2 you should've not half assed anything and should've told him this and that had to be replaced

3. your dad shouldn't have let you proceed with the repairs if he didnt have the money to fix it properly

4. you should have taken it to another mechanic just to confirm if it was your fault or not

5. after 2 months your dad is complaining about it to you thats his fault because it could have been a number of other things that went wrong....

simply put you both screwed yourselves over personally i would go up to your dad and tell him exactly the deal and if he is being a dick about it i would tell him straight up to **** off. if he considers 1700 dollars worth more to him then the relationship between you and him then he shouldnt be worth a dime to you. i would cut off the relationship, make some money and give the 1700 dollars back to him and when he comes and tries to talk to you afterwards tell him to go **** himself.

personally i believe the tranny went and because one bolt was not put in the housing and the vss nut snapped off, and it worked fine for 2 months i think it was plain and simply the tranny ****ed up . . . . . . it wouldn't go into two gears but the other three worked fine . . . .

yea could be but then again whats easier to explain to a customer that doesnt know crap? the tranny went because the syncro's got messed blah blah blah or because a bolt was missing?

also what you have to remember is if the tranny could survive with one bolt missing in the first place the engineers at ford would have definately not used that bolt in the first place.

Dude doesn't sound like he's a good father, anywho. Both of you guy's are both at fault, your dad is tight on money so he gets someone to half *** the job??? Don't let a ***** suck your dick and then get mad when you get bumps rule comes into play here.
