Failed emissions--732 HC PPM!!! Oh god!!

92 vx snatchback, bone stock, 300 000k

HC ppm---Limit: 94 My READING: 648!!! FAIL
CO% -----Limit: 0.52 My READING: 0.03 PASS
NO ppm--Limit: 732 MY READING: 23 FASS

Overall test: FAIL

I Just changed the plugs and oil before going. I know there is no vacuum leaks. But The cat might be toast. The motor might be runnig too rich. I ran 87 octane as for its not a high compression motor, it doesnt need it. What is HC ppm? Is that unbernt fuel?

Mike.

HC = unburned fuel

once HC drops, NO should rise a little

so now the questions, what mods does it run? FPR, ECU chip, injector size, fuel pump...

Everything stock. Im not sure the condition of the fuel filter. Ill check that. The exhaust visually looks clean...there is no black smoke or anything. Im wondering why its runing so rich..nothing has been modified, but it is high km.

HCs like that you exhaust MUST reek of raw fuel... my 86 Prelude just passed no problemo

Be sure your fuel press regulator is getting vacuum, and you have no vacuum leaks. Secondly check to be sure your injectors are pulsing - you need what's called a "noid" light. Ensure your timing is as advanced as it can be - retarded timing causes this type of fail. Visually inspect that you are getting good spark.
