Failed e-test...need help

I took in my b16 ef to get e-tested and it failed, miserably.

the test was a 2 speed idle(too low to get on the dyno) and iut was tested under hot rod specs since it doesn't reatin the stock block. If you can help that would be appreciated...

test results:

IDLE
hc ppm--limit-300 reading-463 fail!
CO % --limit-1.5 reading-2.66 fail!

2500 rpm
hc ppm--limit-300 reading-793 fail!
CO % --limit1.5 reading-6.74 fail!

Can yu help me out?
Thanks
Matt

damn... what were your NOx readings like? or do they not test that in hot rods?

what ECU do you have? any mods? how's the car on maintenance?

since they did the 2 speed idle test the NOx readings were not used

im running a stock pr3 ecu
the car is running fairly well, there is a little bit of a hesitation when i get on the accelerator going up a hill or putting load on the engine

Hey. Maybe your Catalytic converter is no good. It failed on everything. Try adjusting the distributor. The timing is off. if it fails on everything that means your Cat is no good most of the time.

well, what do you have more of? time or money? cuz w/ money you can start randomly replacing parts, or with time you can go through and test every component one by one and ensure it's running properly. If all components check out, and you've done a tuneup and fluid change... and your ignition AND cam timing is okay, then go ahead and do the catalytic converter.

start with a tune up, then check the fuel pressure, then check for vacuum leaks... then adjust your valve lash and check your cam timing while you're at it. then check IAT, CTS, O2 sensor, MAP, TPS... and I think that should get you started pretty well. I think it's time to get ahold of a Factory Service Manual, or at least a chilton/haynes book.

tune up includes what? plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, air filter? i have all of that new! i don't know how to check fuel pressure, and im 99% sure there is no vaccum leaks. timing is dead on from when i replaced my timing belt/water pump. what are iat and cts sensors?(can't remember off the top of my head) o2 sensors aren't throwing the same as the haynes manual says. but close. map sensor is right how do i test my tps?

other than that thanks B

i did a compression test today and the readings were
195,190,200,203
also 3 of the 4 plugs were covered in carbons. witch i would think meant running rich which is caused by o2 sensor...
any input would be nice

yeah, quite possibly O2 sensor fault!! clubplug.net for cheap O2 sensors. test voltage on HOT O2 at idle, should be 0.4V else O2 is toast.

at idle? i will test that before the night
on another note... where can i get a JDM o2 sensor? the secondary o2 sensor has a longer wire and a different plug

Thanks for the fast response

the secondary o2 sensor had a voltage of .005 and the primary o2 had a reading of .8v this is at idle...
what does this mean?

just but a fuel pressure regulator such as B & M 46057 and lean the ***** right out... then when it passes bump it back up to 42 psi... that'd be the easiest way

if there is too much fuel(rich mixture) i would like to permanently solve that problem so when i turn it back up there isn't still a rich mixture.

that way i can get BETTER gas milage too. passing the test is awsome but i want it to run right without using a hack

hmmmm... TWO O2 sensors, both appearing to read correctly (assuming you have a catalytic converter??)... I wonder if the computer is wired up correctly so that it's getting the right signal. Either that, or maybe the secondary O2 is not reading right... What I'd like to see you do is take the primary O2 and just bolt it into the secondary location and leave it unhooked, then just measure the voltage at idle when warmed up... if again the reading is the same as before, then both O2 sensor AND the cat are OKAY!

But if you don't have a cat, then the secondary O2 is fuct.
