Failed E-test

hey guys can you tell me what you think this all means. and what i need to fix to get it to pass?

HC ppp: limit is 75, i read 83
CO%: limit is 0.42, I read 0.76
NO ppm: limit is 576. I read 671

I failed in the RPM test, the car passed at idle. any thoughts? thanks

^^^ totally wrong

HC means too much fuel is getting into the cylinder, and the NOx means it's burning too hot. sounds like a timing issue but I'm taking a stab in the dark until you reveal what engine/car/mods/fuel management you have.

usually, if all of them fail, you need to replace a CAT, but ya you need revel what you have before we can identify the problem

weird ?

but i'll take a wrong note on this one...cuz i probably am wrong

and just go buy some fuel additive...got me through mine

look at his HC readings... high HC readings means too much fuel... where you took that quote from he had lower HC readings.

each emissions test is unique to the setup... if I recall correctly, that other one was also a stock car. this is a turbo D.

to the original poster, your turbo vehicle needs a tune. did it pass etest before (while turbo) or is this the first attempt at an etest since the turbo was installed?

also, NOx emissions are caused by too high a temp in the combustion chamber, and too high a temp can be caused by running lean, running too advanced, or malfunctioning EGR. if I recall correctly, it takes temps of about 1200-1400 F to make NOx byproducts.

I just bought the car, im assuming its the 1st attempt at the etest. The Ford dealer that sold it to me tried the etest themselves and it failed. it passed at idle though.

since im here anyone know who's car i bought???

man...

there is no way you're gonna pass without some real tuning. Your options is to get a fake e-test or cough up a bit more to get a p28/harness/street tuning session with the zeeeeeeeeeman.

pm zeeman if you want to go this route.

(oh and i forget you'll need larger injectors as well)

not exactly. HC means unburnt fuel. It doesn't mean too much gas going into the combustion chamber.

By looking at those numbers, it look like a lean misfire. Do a real good decarbonize.

he means decarbon the engine with seafoam (see thread in the DIY forum)

seeing as how you have stock injectors, why not just do this.... disconnect the charge pipe and stick a filter on the end of it.... then disconnect your FMU... assuming your ECU is stock, it'll pass as if it were a stock car. simple enough.

I may just have to try that, is there an easy way of disconecting the FMU??
