extra cranking while starting??

ok well usually any time i start my car it fires up right on the first crank.
However i have noticed for about a week or 2 that once in a while it cranks several times ( maybe 4or5) and then it starts up and runs like normal.

Spark plugs are under 1K old and iv put different gas in a few times so i dont think its just a case of bad gas.

anybody have any clue what this could be? its not really a major problem right now but i would like to fix it incase it leads to something worse or wrecks my starter.

It could easily be due to the fuel pump taking a few seconds to pump the gas to the engine.

This would typically occur when you have 1/4 tank or less.

Try turning your key to the 'ON' position and waiting 5 seconds for the pump to prime the fuel line. Then crank it and it should start right up.

EDIT: it's probably good practice to do this even when your fuel tank is full.

as Goldbadge said.

Turn the key to ignition, let the engine light go off (that's your pump priming) and then crank it.

I think they mean shell, sunoco, esso, petro....etc...

Different brands.

Yeah I think this is a pretty common thing among civics....
Just let the pump cycle for a few seconds and it should start fine.
