aint mild steel the same stuff exhaust is made out of? cuz as B said chromoly is what it really should be (bike frames are made out of it)...and I guess we need more info on what "half" of the cage you are talking about (front/rear), is the car gonna be daily driven or is it track duty?
fill us in dude!

car's track duty
chrome-moly is lighter and stornger, so you can go with a thinner wall thickness.
mild is less costly, easier to weld, but you have to get a thicker wall thickness. also, don't forget to have him put in an inspection hole for tech, and put it in a non-critical area of the main hoop (if I remember the rules correctly)

yeah your right bruno...
dual duty car... and you always get the back half done before the front if your doing it in a few stages...
the exhuast is made out of mild steel or stainless depends on where you get it from but the walls on those pipes are thin the walls on the cage will be thick...
Chrome-moly was an option.. but for the extra price and no cheque in hand sponsors yet .. I couldn't see the need....
see Ron O'brien ( the builder) had the newest mustang in there getting a full cage installed .... chrome-moly...the idea was to get the car light wieght for the american iron series... well the car orginally had a full mild steel cage ... they removed that and put in a full chrome-moly cage. now both cages were like a 12 or more point cage... it was basically a full tube chassis inside the car.... total wieght savings from the switch 50 pounds.
so I figure with the less amount of piping I'm having installed in my car in comparasion to the Mustang. I'm not going to save that much wieght .... I could save more wieght by eating right...
the cage will be a 4 point cage with harness bar and some extra bars for added rigidity....
so at the meet last night ...
uses for Gatherer's roll cage...
1) a portable monkey bar setup
2) a place to hang dry cleaning on the way home...
feel free to be creative and add..

I am just going by that, I am not sure if the book says anything about 4Point or not.

ummm what series do you (or did you) run in with the talon?
it could just be the difference of the series we run in....
