Exhaust wrapping?

Exhaust wrapping?
I have read that by wraping the exhaust header and system will gain power and fuel economy. Don't know if this is true, but here is the theory.
Hot gas is less densed and will flow faster, when the exhaust gas leaves through the pipes, the surrounding air in the engine bay will cool that gas. But if you can keep if hot, you can increase the velocity and better salvaging. I see alot of drag cars having this mod but can't figure out why. Formula Honda's 10s car has this done, just to name one.
Also they recommand wraping the intake too. Some people have reported gains, don't know if any members here have this mod.
Thanks

yes, that's true.....but on an everyday driver, you will end up having a rusted header. Moisture will collect on the wrap.....therefore the header will start to corode. Those drag cars that use those wraps are not ussually daily drivers, so it doesn't matter to them about that problem. They also have a tendancyto change parts more often than you or I. If you want a better/longer way of getting the same effect (will cost more), get the header ceramic coated. The ceramic coating holds the heat in simular to the wrap, without the traped moister part. There a place up in Shelbourn (I believe) that can coat your header, or any other part you want with a ceramic coating. They are called Fire Ball Coatings. The parts look MINT when they are done.

It's nice to have friends that are into the older custom cars to get info from.

Hahaha, there is nothing like a good debate. That is how we learn.
I had my turbine housing, downpipe, and turbo manifold ceramic coated by a place called High Tech Coatings in Ruscom, ON. Pricing was decent. If you want to see pics of the coated parts, click on the link to my MR2 in my sig.

look at the tele #. (I think they might be owned by the same people, because I remember that name as well).
And this is the shiny silver ceramic coating. Almost looks like chrome.
They also have different colours too.
Header coatings are in the following colors high polished aluminum, arctic black, gold, stainless steel, cast iron gray, white, silver and gloss black.

These guys are usually down at Speedoram and other car shows. Check them out.

Fireball and High Tech are two different companies. Ruscom (High Tech) is down near Windsor, while Shelburne (Fireball) is just north of Orangeville. Both do excellent work. If you don't want to make the drive, I know that Performance Improvements has a deal set up with Fireball, where they ship the part for you, to Fireball to be coated.
