Exedy clutch and lightweight flywheel, anygood?
 

First off, my 1.6EL will remain stock give or take minor work, so i'm not worried about the clutch holding power, so Exedy OE should work right?

I got my exedy oem clutch kit for 65 USD. I got a Fidanza 7lb flywheel. Im loving it so far. Seems like alot of money so id jus get the same one i got and lighten your stock one to keep costs down.

thanks, ebay links don't work, but i found a 92-04 civic OE clutch kit for $65usd + $19usd S&H = $84usd = $100cdn for the clutch kit in my hands... seller is gripforce clutch, great feedback, same as my first post.

i'm worried about my flywheel cause i know the previous owner grinded it plus i've grinded it a bunch of times shifting fast into 3rd gear, so i'm worried about the teeth on the flywheel, thats mainly why i'm looking into a new flywheel lightened or not.

but ya, $100cdn for a new clutch kit is damn nice, if i can pick up a flywheel reasonable lightweight or not, i'm set.

so....how are Exedy clutches guys...OE clutches specifically, any good. Exedy is a brand name for OE type clutches so it should be fine eh.

Also how hard is it to chip teeth on a stock flywheel. 184,XXXkm on it with a skunk2 short shifter.

gripforce is who i got it from too, they were awesome. Flywheels dont grind when u shift fast, those are the synchros in ur tranny. The only thing that will grind with the flywheel is the starter. I suggest you try driving a car with a lightened flywheel cus some ppl hate it sum ppl love it, it stalls hella easy and dont even think of letting sumone else that cant drive standard well cus they stall at every light.

These are exactly like OEM cus it says daikin jus like the OEM one i took off. They grab hard with a stock motor, pedal is nice and soft after i changed it

so the grinding i hear from time to time shifting into 3rd quick is the synchro's?

so the stock flywheel could possibly just be machined right? who can do this as well? If light lightweight stalls faster that will be a pain in the ass for city driving so i may not go too light or just leave it stock since i don't want to have the revs drop faster too with the city driving i do.

I'm going to take my girlfriend out and teach her to drive 5speed a few times now that i'm getting the clutch, cause with a new clutch she aint touchin the EL, lol. so if you see a runaway 1.6EL and the passenger has a worried look on his face, she's drivin :D

i think the $215 option looks good, thats what i'm gonna go with :D $215cdn total shipping-included and i'll get it in 3 weeks when family comes up from rochester.

rather then get stock machined, this way its an all new install

i wouldnt bother with a new flywheel if ur getting stock weight, waste of money IMO but its up to you

thanks for the help. reasoning behind getting a new Exedy OE flywheel is...its only $120cdn new....to get mine machined is gonna be like $40-$50 when you include gas somewhere, labour, etc.

By buying new, if for some reason my stock flywheel is damaged i'll have this new one to complete the install where as if its damaged and i don't buy the Exedy one, I'm ****ed....and i'll be rushing to Honda and paying out the ass since the car will be apart.

So its cheap insurance to make sure it all goes smoothly since when the car is apart, it has to go smoothly or any parts needed are bought here at Honda for $$$$$$$

I can always try and sell my stock flywheel if anyone wants to get it machined to be light as long as its not damaged.

I still think $215cdn for everything is a wicked price :D

I have that clutch kit on my old civic, the quality is fine, just like OE. Been over a year now with no problems on it.

So cheap yet so good.

it does nothing more than stock. the light flywheel will help it rev a bit quicker but not like it will make a huge noticeable difference in that engine you will probably lose torque rather then gain much of anything.

why would you loose torque

Seems pritty damn cheap for a lighten flywheel. I got a B-series so maybe that's why. I've got a Exedy Stage 1 clutch and a Fidanza flywheel....i like it a lot. The Stage1 clutch doesn' t feel much different than a type r clutch. I would have gone with a exedy flywheel if the price was right (but it definatally was not.)

If my previous research is correct...Exedy is made by the same company that make the stock honda clutches. And the OE replacement clutches are basically a stock clutch.

No I dont' think the flywheel is too light (I don't think mine is light, and it's like 7-9 pounds, I forget the exact weight...and guess what NO PROBLEMS) and I personally would get a Stage 1 clutch and not the OE replacement. But then again I have a B series and not a D.

So steve IYO you think its not a good idea to ever get a lightened flywheel? or only under some diff circumstances?
