Ever had this problem?

Hey all,

I'm having a problem when my car is cold and starts to warm. It's sputtering and doesnt sound smooth. I also notice a ticking sound when it does this and some coolant on the ground in the middle of the engine. Can't seem to figure this one out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Address the coolant leak first. The ticking could be a number of things. What's the condition of your belts?

Having kind of a simliar problem.. kind of sounds like its misfiring on cold starts. The ticking could just be that you need a valve adjustment.

it could be valve adjustments, maybe gas, don't use cheap gas..

They did a pressure test and found no leaks. My belts are fine. I just had the thermostat and the head gasket replaced.

Someone suggested i replace the cap and rotor. If those were proven to be faulty would that cause the symptoms im experiencing? I have a feeling it could get worse if left unresolved.

okay..

hows your oil level? does your car bog down at all? you said the coolant was coming from the middle of the engine.. but you had a pressure test done and it showed no leaks... which sounds weird to me.. is it still dripping coolant? I'd double check all your hose connections (theres a few behind your engine)..

who suggested you'd get your cap and rotor checked out? Did they see it? If there are no cracks in your cap, it's most likely fine.. but moisture can still be getting in there through tiny cracks you cant see.

You may just need a tune-up, i'd be glad to check it out if you are near oakville

There is no bogging at all car runs fine when warm. For 2 days I didnt notice anymore drips, but then i just started again last night (really weird).

This girl that I work with her husband checked it out. He pulled off the cap and showed me this tiny (not even a mm) line in the cap...

Chris I'm not sure when I can get up there, (maybe next week) but I would appreciate it.

The leak is only occuring on really cold nights because things contract in the cold.

I was thinking the same Carlito. I think something is blocked b/c when it starts after a cold night it drops out 2 separate puddles of coolant. Do you guys think it might be the fast idle valve?
